Toledo like MTSU has depended on a grad transfer the last 2 years to get their offense going. Two years ago it was Marquette grad transfer Steve Taylor and last year it was Colorado grad transfer Tre'Shaun Fletcher. Also just like MTSU, Toledo doesn't have that element this year. This will be an interesting game. By the end of the non conference schedule you should be able to gage what McDevitt can or can't do.

Marshall and MTSU will have 2 common opponents in the OOC. Both play UVA and Toledo.
That Bad Boy Mowers Tournament is high-speed low-drag!!!!!
Pretty nice schedule.

I don't think we will know what McDevitt can do until after next season. We loss half our team to transfer and all of our highly rated recruits when Kermit left. McDevitt had to piece this team together with whoever he could find. He will need a little more time to get his players here before he can be truly judged.
Forgot you guys are playing UVA too. #whynotus

What do you think your ooc record will be?

Sadly, I think we will be 5-8. It's a pretty tough schedule and our team was decimated losing our recruiting class and the 4 players that transferred out. Anything above 5-8 and I will be impressed with McDevitt's ability to coach them up.
We will be lucky to win 10 games total this year and I actually don't think we will. The recruiting class to replace key seniors was eviscerated. Which reminds me we lost those key seniors. The best returning players were kicked off the team. Plus, though we've had a top 25 schedule several years in a row, I think this may be the toughest one yet.

This isn't going to be the program the league has become accustomed to seeing.

There is maybe two wins in the OOC. Maybe.

In Dan's first year he went 11-22. But by the time we were in our last game of the OOC you could tell that Dan could coach, he just needed the talent here, which clearly wasn't there in 2014. At the time there may have been 2 DI players in Ryan Taylor and Cheikh Sane and the potential of Austin Loop.

In year 2 they went 17-16 but the start was anything but good. They lost to Newberry College (DII Newberry, SC) 101-89 in an exhibition. At the time Newberry closely resembled what Dan wanted to do at Marshall. And then they started the season losing the 1st 6 games including to JMU twice.

You may not be what you were the last few years but by the end of the non conference schedule you will know if he can coach at this level. What you will look for is does he let his players play or does he coach and manage each possession from the bench, have good time management skills, know when to call timeouts or let them play through a few turnovers or bad sets.
Just lost another player on the team. I think that now makes 11 departures from the roster including the seniors. Only 3 returning players from last year's team left (and one of those was a redshirt).

Wow.
If middle come out of that pre conference schedule with a winning record, they will have a chance to be a CUSA competitor for the top spot

Who was it?

Shelton-Szmidt. He dropped out of college and stopped basketball to "return to his religion"

I can't even fathom the odds of that being higher than half a percent.

This team is going to be SWAC-level bad.

He averaged 3 minutes per game (1.3 points) last year. At this point I don't think your season hinged on him other than just less depth.

No he wasn't going to be a big help. Kid never lived up to the hype and potential that ckd said he had. Actually frees up a roster spot for the 2019 signing class and that's the only real good thing about it. Wish the kid had received this revelation this past spring when the coach might have been able to do something with that spot on the roster.

There wasn't anyone he was going to take minutes away from last year as a freshman, but with all the other departures he would have gotten a lot of minutes this year.
MTSU is due for a bad season, we will give you a pass this upcoming season....Conf. needs UTEP, Charlotte, and UAB to step up their game this season...

Not sure what "due" means in your book, but had Kermit stayed and Antwan not been kicked off we are top 2 or 3 again in the league.

We will be bottom 2 or 3 this year now.
