Dear Friends,
A new venue for this year. The luncheons will be held at the Bigarola Restaurant in Ann Arbor. Near capacity crowd of fifty people, and when asked how many were season ticket holders, the vast majority raised their hands. You could feel the excitement for the coming season.
Athletic Director Wetherbee talked about the new facility, and invited everyone to the official ground breaking tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. There was rendering of the facility, and it has been changed from the ones that were originally posted. Still the same square footage if I remember correctly. Lay footings next month with vertical construction by November. The whole thing will hopefully be completed by next August.
Jeremy Hickey and Kyle Rachwal were guest players. Both spoke of team unity, and expressed their pride in Eastern. Overall the team is injury free and ready to go.
Coach Creighton would not announce the starting quarterback. That will happen on Friday. He said that the team had better not look past Monmouth because they were a winning team, and had won their conference with a 9-3 overall record. He also said there has been no determination as to who may wear number 2. The team will enter Rynearson from the tunnel under the Convocation Center, and use one of the locker rooms under Rynearson while construction is on going.
Any questions?
Thanks, Ken.

It would be nice to see a large contingent turn out tomorrow for the ground breaking. And we need photos... :)
Thanks Ken. Not a fan of seeing this is in Ann Arbor now. It should be in Ypsi. I place like the Tower Inn would be just fine.

Any word on the scoreboard for Friday?

Bigalora. Owned by a cousin of mine. The name comes from an Italian tradition of using a piece of dough from a previous pie in the next one. A biga.
Dear WoodenNickle,
As said before, the scoreboard for the games this year will be brought in by a semi-truck. The old video board was 400 square feet. Even the one brought in by the truck will be 600 square feet. Of course the one to be on the new facility will be larger than the one on the truck.

For those who are math challenged, even with a calculator:

400 sq feet can be 17 x 24 feet.

600 sq feet can be 20 x 30 feet.

1,000 sq feet can be 25 x 40 feet.

1,350 sq feet can be 30 x 45 feet.

1,600 sq feet can be 33 x 48 feet.

As long as it's closer to the field (inside the track).

Size matters with video boards, the location matters with video boards, also,

Also the density of the pixels, etc. matter. The quality of video boards has gotten much much better in recent years. The quality of the old video board was mediocre from day 1.

The temporary scoreboard arrived. You can see it in the background in the newly posted you tube video where the band is teaching the team the fight song.
There's a lunch today. Hopefully our reporter in the field (Ken B) will be able to attend! 03-lmfao

Coach Creighton should insist the show be done in Ypsilanti
Dear Friends,
I see we are anxious to find what happened at the luncheon today. There were about forty people in attendance including Coach Creighton's parents.
The player in attendance was Ross Williams. He was asked what the big difference was between his first year at Eastern and now. He said the team is very much just that. When he first arrived there were differences between the offense and the defense, but not now. I asked who the starting quarterback would be for this week-end, and the answer was, you will know at approximately 6:05 p.m. on Saturday. Coach said they are very happy with having two quarterbacks that are available, and can be used in various situations.
As far as the Buffalo game went, Coach Creighton said Buffalo just outplayed Eastern, and he felt they just wanted it more. Not that there was a letdown after Purdue, or there was overconfidence. Buffalo just played better.
San Diego State was a game they let get away. Eastern missed some opportunities, and did not cover correctly on the squib kick,
after Eastern took the lead. It was a game we should have won.
Northern Illinois is the hardest team to prepare for in Coach's opinion. The reason is that they use their quarterback as a runner, just like a halfback. He also said their defense is very good, and will be a test for Eastern's offense. Eastern is free of any serious injuries for the game, but has bumps and bruises to try and heal before Saturday.
As far as the luncheons being held in Ann Arbor, the restaurant has become a sponsor for Eastern. What that means, I don't know. As far as Powell's is concerned, I haven't been there in years, but the last time I was there it was a dump, and could not hold 40-50 people and carry on normal business.
Any questions?

Didn't 'cover correctly' on the squib? TThat's a new one. The real question........why the squib? Again, it seemed like they were playing scared. I think they had 1 good KO return, but the others really weren't. Certainly no better than their field position after the squib.

I guess I'd be in the market for a kickoff specialist for next year who can automatically put it deep/out of the endzone.

Nice to see Hoying and Eddington back. Moody was the only one missing, assuming he's back this week.

I remember a few returns that were almost broke for huge gains and I thought earlier in the game that we need to kick away from him. I understand why they tried to squib, but it was done very poorly. Obviously now in hindsight we would prefer they took their chances with the returner and kicked it deep. I agree though that we need a guy who can put it in the endzone consistently on kickoffs. Their kicker put it out of the endzone almost every time.
Thanks Ken.
Dear Eagle King,
You said exactly what Coach Creighton said about earlier kick-offs. That's why the squib attempt.
