American Athletic Conference
2018:
Bowl games will be placed based on best fit for the Conference and its membership.
The Birmingham Bowl versus SEC 12/22
The Gasparilla Bowl versus ACC 12/20 ST PETE
The Frisco Bowl versus MAC 12/19 TX
The Military Bowl versus ACC 12/31 ANNAPOLIS
The Armed Forces Bowl versus Big 12 12/22 FT WORTH
The Boca Raton Bowl versus Conference USA 12/18
The Cure Bowl versus Sun Belt 12/15 ORLANDO

Conditional Secondary-Agreements

The Liberty Bowl The American fills unused slot if SEC or Big 12 does not fill its slot 12/31 MEMPHIS

The Independence Bowl Conference USA or the American fills unused slot if ACC or SEC does not fill its slot (both have backup agreements). 12/27 SHREVEPORT

My preference would be Liberty (been there) or Military (been there) or Birmingham (been there). But beggars can not be picky.

The same dump of a stadium in Birmingham when we were there before ? No thanks. Had a great time in Memphis so I'd go back for the Liberty Bowl. Otherwise, unlikely.

The stadium was and is a dump in a sketchy area but it holds fond memories the beginning of the run of bowls that followed.

Going back to your original posting, for my money I'll take the Liberty Bowl. Of all my bowl trips it was the best total experience: reasonable drive, unseasonably warm weather, an exciting win over an SEC team and New Year's Eve on Beale Street.

Let's hope we're soon bowl eligible and discussing the pros and cons of all these.

ANother vote for Memphis... Gus's Famous Spicy Fried Chicken. So good.
I know it's too soon, but with the MWC contenders falling on their faces this week and a weak schedule ahead, we could find ourselves in the NY6 discussion and knocking on the door of the top 25 midway through the season. If nothing else, it's a good feeling knowing we should be able to get back to a bowl game.

Regrettably if Liberty needs an AAC team you can be pretty sure it will be Memphis.

That's the oldest...and most demonstrably FALSE...rumor in the short history of this conference. The Liberty Bowl has no real affection for Memphis; they actually have gone out of their way to avoid the possibility of Memphis playing in the bowl.

People keep floating the idea that the Liberty Bowl (the game, not the stadium) has some soft-spot for Memphis and there is nothing to indicate that there is anything to it. I could point out that Bowl Games are set up to bring people INTO a city and stay in hotels (which would argue against the Liberty Bowl wanting Memphis), I could point out that the Liberty Bowl ran screaming from the AAC after Memphis was added to the roster and was willing to take a sketchy contract with the lower echelons of both the Big XII and SEC rather than a high contract with the AAC, I could point out that the whole "Fred Ex" thing hasn't brought a single dollar to the conference (though he has improved the stadium at least), but the myth survives.

I think the Liberty would take a UC or UCF over a home Memphis in a heartbeat.
^^

Agreed. If for nothing else the hotel and food & beverage industry wants the out of town revenue (locals just go home).
Memphis was in the Liberty Bowl just last year so the bowl organizers couldn't have been too opposed to their local university playing in their bowl. And the Memphis-Iowa State game was one of the better bowl games played last year.
The Military Bowl seems to have an affection for Navy.

Eh, that's a fair point.
Jerry Palm's way too early bowl predictions after week 3:

UC vs Troy - Cure Bowl (Orlando - 12/15)

Fun seeing these, but probably about as predictive as basketball bracketology the first week of January. Any bowl will fill the bill this year and I know Troy went to Lincoln and smacked down Nebraska. But my hope would be to play a bigger "brand"; a team down the pecking order in the SEC or ACC would create more fan interest on the home front.

Navy's stadium is awesome, and I would love an opportunity to beat Pitt again, but I'm kind of hoping for something new and warm like Boca Raton.
I'm dreaming of a bowl game against Louisville...

I was there for the last bowl. Horrible parking but at the last minute I got to park 300 feet from the stadium.

That is the only bowl I cannot attend this year.

I forgot about the parking... yeah, I'm pretty sure I had to walk half an hour to my vehicle after watching that Bowlcation. Not fun.
