Jets: Pennington talks about contract status

Chad Pennington is in no hurry to negotiate a new contract with the Jets. According to associated press reports, the quarterback told his agent that if a contract agreement is not reached by August 31, no negotiations will take place until after the season. "I've made sure it won't be a distraction, that's why I've allowed them to discuss it through August but after that there are no discussions," said Pennington. He is in the last year of a five-year deal that will pay him $4.57 million this season.

It's nice that Chad is so down-to-earth about it all. Some believe the Jets want to wait and see what Pennington can do in a full season as the starter – something he has never done so far in his career. He has the same agent as the Mannings, who have obviously done well for themselves, so if something doesn't get hashed out by the end of camp, Pennington will have a huge incentive to play well this year so he can cash in during the offseason.
