Ute fan here. Got my tix to the game v. you guys in the mail yesterday. Psyched for football. We comin' for you!

Would love to hear all your thoughts on Utah and the upcoming game.

I live in MN and I've always been very impressed with NIU football. Your teams are usually tough and play hard-nosed football. I was excited for the Gophers when they hired Kill (too bad his health just wouldn't let him coach at his best).

Anyway, I don't know why Utah is traveling to NIU. When I saw this game announced I thought it was a bad idea because you guys have all the makings for a scary game for Utah and it's got me nervous. But I'll be there cheering on my Utes and hoping to avoid the upset.

Anything a visitor should know about Dekalb? Where to stay, where to eat, other tips?

Welcome!

For game days, my favorite is the Beef Roll from Pizza Pros, which is almost next to Huskie Stadium. If you have never had an Italian Beef sandwich I would highly recommend it.
Best pizza in DeKalb (and probably the state) is the thin crust pie at Pizza Villa, within walking distance of the stadium. Opens at 4 p.m.

Some schools have the nerve to play on the road, some don't. We are also travelling to Utah for a game at some point (next year?). I give credit to Utah for going on the road. We're also supposed to play BYU at home, though this year we are @BYU.

I'll let others that spend more time in DeKalb remark about where to go, etc.

If we're good enough to give Utah a good game, we'll probably beat Iowa and give Florida State a good game, and it that case it wouldn't be a terrible loss. I'm not that optimistic, but if our offense improves a lot from last year, anything can happen.

Curious... is this with a pizza crust? Molly's used to have one before they moved which used a pizza crust. It was awesome.
How hasn’t anyone mentioned Fatty’s. Get a burger and the fried potato salad
Go dancing at The Jungle
Catch a band and drink a Schlitz at Ottos
Flirt with the coeds at Starbusters
Get a corned beef at The Dill Pickle Deli
Hang with the townies at Andys
Meet DogFan at the Paperback Grotto
Schlitz?

Yes, they take pizza dough and put italian beef and cheese on top. Then they roll it up and bake it and serve it with a cup of au jus.

+1. Pizza Villa is my go to pizza place - as it has been for 45 years.

That's if you can get into that place. It's very crowded even on no sports days. And take it easy on the fried potato salad, lest you want to get intimate with your cardiologist.

I'm usually pretty busy at the Grotto with pleasurable activities. If you want to see me, you need to take a number. It's first come, first served. And I am the sole judge of who comes first.
Beer nuggets. Pizza Villa.

I miss beer nuggets. It’s the greatest Dekalb creation. I haven’t found a single place other than in Dekalb that sells them.
Cajun Fried Potato Salad at Fatty's. Convo Lot is large, good mix of people. Cheapest parking too.
Ute——it has gotten a lot of play already, but there really isn’t much better in DeKalb than a pizza hot out of the oven at Pizza Villa. Perfect combination of cheese, whatever topping you choose, and just the right balance of tasty grease. Good old fashioned pizza cut in squares, not triangles. Probably my top choice when in town.

Fatty’s, as mentioned, is the prime sports bar type atmosphere with good food and scenery mixed in. Good choice, probably most crowded as it really is the only college bar for pre-post game in town.

Probably some decent, sporadic tailgaters out there—some in Convo lot, some close to the stadium (both east and west side). I guarantee if you come up in Ute gear you will be welcome with open arms and make some pre-game friends.

Enjoy your trip.

I deliver so many beer nuggets in my day (working for Lukulos and Pizza Pros). SO GOOOD.
Damn, this thread is making me so freakin' hungry! I feel like I could eat a cow.
Fattys for sure. The yard is an open tailgating event outside the stadium with a band etc. good time as well.
