It's still August, and I thought this would be an interesting subject to argue about.

I know we've discussed ad nauseam about how you can't really generate rivalries out of the blue. But would it make sense to help them along with some locked-in scheduling?

I was looking at rivalry week scheduling around the league. I know that Ole Miss/Mississippi State, VT/Virginia, and Michigan/OSU will always play the last week of the regular season. They even have series like SC/Clemson and Georgia/Georgia Tech that cross conferences.

One interesting series that I came across is Missouri/Arkansas. Those teams had played each other 5 times before Missouri entered the SEC. The conference immediately locked them into a rivalry week schedule, playing the last game of the regular season every year since 2014 despite being in opposite divisions.

Would it make sense for us to establish regular rivarly week schedules to drum up some story lines, even if it's just in division?

If so, I'd be interested to hear everyone's idea of pairings, in-division or otherwise. UCF-USF is one of the obvious examples, but feel free to really express yourself.
The UCONN-UCF rivalry is second to none. It needs to either be the first or the last game of every season.
Houston is the closest to a rival we have in the AAC. TCU is easily our biggest rival overall, and really our only true rival. This year will be the 98th time we’ve played in football (TCU leads all-time 50-40-7) and we have played around 190 times in hoops where we lead 98-82 or something close to that all-time.

You can't have Houston. They are Tulsa's.

Teh truth
I consider Memphis to be our rivals.
The AAC should have done this early on. Half this conference doesn't have a proper conference rival. It is a big problem because it really hurts ratings to have anonymous games in November.
I dont know, outside of USF/UCF, I don't really see real rivalvies. They all seemed like they are being forced down everyone's throat. USF/UCF is the only real rivalry in a sense where their fan bases hate eachother just as much as Alabama/Auburn

Civil ConFLiCT is the answer! 04-cheers
Cincy is our long-time rival in basketball. We don't really have a football rival in this conference, but I would say one is brewing with Houston. The last 4 games have all been hard-fought classics.

No! Everyone wants to be Houston's rival. That does not work! You, Memphis, get Tulane!

Enjoy!

I'd be up for anyone in the West being our rival.

Navy because we've had some controversy with them and good battles. However we haven't beat them in the AAC yet which makes things lopsided.

Memphis would be good. However they've kinda got the best of us more in recent years, and we beat them up for a good stretch about 5 years ago and back. Not much animosity there.

Tulane is a similar school to us. The only downer is they've only beat us like twice in the last 15 years or so.

Houston...obviously people Tulsa have some bad blood with them. But people down there don't see it quite the same so I'm told. However it is a very even series and remains competitive and back forth presently.

SMU like Tulane is similar to our school. They're near by and we've had decent competition. They usually play us tough. Plus there's the whole Oklahoma vs Texas thing. I thought they'd make a good rival long before this whole Teh Rivalry stuff with Houston came up.

SMU followed by Houston would be my picks for a Tulsa rivalry game. But any would work. Navy would be my 3rd choice.

Personally, I'd prefer UH play SMU the last week of the year (sorry Tulsa fans), every year. That said, the AAC seems to keep trying to pit UH v Memphis or Navy at the end of the year.

Honestly, because there are not a ton of old rivalries, trying to forecast the strongest teams in each division - and having them play at the end of the year is a smart move for a conference trying to land teams in the post-season and earn higher rankings in the conference championship.
