Sad thing to read. I don't get the whole screaming, macho tough guy approach. Fear doesn't breed loyalty. It motivates for all the wrong reasons. Football teams should be tough but there is are clear lines that shouldn't be crossed.

There's a huge difference between getting the kids physically fit and mentally tough, and breaking them down with sadism.
This looks pretty terrible. It's shard to see Durkin making it out of this with his job. I want the football program to be good but if this all turns out to be true...its a price I am unwilling to pay. Since the original incident with McNair, my excitement for this football season has decreased dramatically. I'll still root for the Terps this season but I I'll probably be watching quite a few more games that don't involve them.
I'm afraid the upcoming season is going to unravel (for the team and fans alike) before it even begins. Perhaps it's time to cut ties with Durkin/strength conditioning coaching staff and allow Matt Canada to run the program but give the title to Ralph Friedgen as a goodwill gesture and a way to draw back in fans who walked away after Edsall's hiring.

It is sad. I'm with you on the whole screamy-coachy thing. There's a fine line between trying to motivate and just being an a-hole. I've worked for screaming rage monsters before and they almost always end up being the latter. I saw someone else put it this way. The whole Junction Boys attitude doesn't cut it anymore, especially when someone DIES.

When a player dies on your watch and there's "questions" into how it was handled, heads are going to role, as they should.

Just a question for Terps fans, how does the name Bret Bielema strike ya?

Jim Mora. His son will be a sophomore at Maryland and is on the lacrosse team.

D.J. Durkin placed on administrative leave; Matt Canada named interim head coach.

Now it's just a matter of time. Durkin is probably done at Maryland.

AKA...time for lawyers to make some money
Loh finally apologizes to the McNair family:

Loh tried to sweep this incident under the carpet but got caught. He deserves to be fired along with Evans and Durkin.
Are Maryland officials working on a buy out for the head coach. They fired the strength coach and yesterday's news conference was not a vote of confidence for the coaching staff let alone for the head coach and a lot of others involved with the football program.

I suspect that that they are unofficially working on getting rid of Durkin. I believe they will go through the process of the investigation and end the end, find he was at fault. They'll then fire him with cause. Firing him now would likely result in a lawsuit from Durkin. It still likely will result in a lawsuit from him but I think it's about the perception now. IMO, it's all but a foregone conclusion that he'll be fire. I want to see what happens with Damon Evans (AD) and Wallace Loh (President). It's not going to be shocking to see them lose their jobs due to this as well. It doesn't mean that they will lose their jobs but it will not be shocking if they do get fired or resign.

I thought the AD was hired in July after all of this happened. At least that's the impression I got watching the press conference Tuesday. I wouldn't think he would be fired unless he hid something over the first weeks of his tenure. As for the University President I could see him being held accountable as this happened on his watch as president of the university. He did look upset at the news conference like he might know that the hand writing is on the wall for him. We'll see as the investigation progresses. 07-coffee3

The way Evans said he "just became" AD is such BS. He's been acting AD since last September (or somewhere around there). He officially became AD after McNair's death. It was ABSOLUTELY on his watch. Loh hasn't been popular for a while now and there are plenty of people believe that the AD search was a complete sham. Both of them have come out acting shocked and disappointed but it really seems like they were trying to hid what happened with McNair. I'm really not trying to go all conspiracy theory on this but I and many others are angry and disappointed in everything going on here.

Thanks for the info and update. I had no idea what the AD's status was. Was just going by the info I heard and saw during the Tuesday press conference. 04-cheers

I wouldn't be too surprised if both Loh and Evans get to keep their jobs. Otoh, the others will be let go as part of the McNair settlement. Too bad Martin McNair didn't criticize Loh and Evans for failing to suspend Durkin, Court and the rest immediately.
