Naming rights to (or sponsoring) a position is definitely a new one on me.

I know they've sold naming rights to rooms before. Like the film room or the coaches office.

I guess it's kinda like a chair of excellence on the academic side.

They do it for big orchestras all the time, usually its something like "John D Rockefeller Chair: Principal First Violin" then the person's name.

Interesting. I'm not a patron of the symphony here, so I had no idea this was a thing. That doesn't make it any less ridiculous, however.

Time to pool all of our money together and get naming rights on the bench players. We can call them the "suck it, Calipari" bench.

I love how some of the cheapskates here are whining about folks who actually donate to the university.

We need money. I do not care how it is legally done.

I doubt that Helen and Jabie are all that in to getting their name out, considering they are DEAD!

The administrator of the family trust is a Memphis alum and taught at the University for 20 years.

The trust also gave over $2.5 Million for the women’s athletics programs.

Thanks Mr. McDaniel for your dedication to Memphis, the area where the Hardin family made their money.

When the University starts cashing those yearly $30 Million checks from the conference they can pass on these “ridiculous” donations. Until then they should name the toilets if that’s what it takes to survive. I’ll go first. $500 for the 3rdgenerationtiger throne.
