Temple is a hop skip and a jump away from New Jersey which is where I assume NewJersey GATA lives.

(Include teams you've had games with in the past that you'd like to get going again)

For GS I'd like to see us get Group of 5 H & H's with any of these 10:
1. UCF
2. Marshall
3. MTSU
4. USF
5. So Miss
6. LA Tech
7. WKU
8. Air Force
9. Navy
10. Old Dominion
I'd like to see App schedule H&H's with all the Academies. We have some 1-AA history with WKU, MTSU so that would be fun to rekindle. Ohio U & App have a lot in common, (town and school) it seems like a natural. Would really like to see the series continue with So Miss. I have no desire to play at Temple, Memphis, USF or UCF.

Temple is a program that is rarely consistent. I personally like to play them because they are close for me (2 hours). The drive isn't horrible for our fan base (700 miles).

There may be some desirable locations that Southern should look at first like MTSU, Charlotte, East Carolina etc. A school like Memphis is about 650 miles.

Hopefully Monken will change his stance about playing Southern in near future. Playing a military school at Paulson would help expand the brand.

Army is 45 miles north for me. Honestly, I rarely here anything about them from media in the area. The few former Army guys I work with do talk about them sometime. Monken made them respectable and is highly praised!
OOC G5 teams I'd like to see at APP:
Top 3 - ECU, Marshall, Southern Miss
Others - MTSU, ODU, WKU, Cincinnati, Ohio, Miami (OH), Navy, Army, Air Force, Boise St, BYU

Off the main topic here but are you hearing anything regarding Monken's desire to stay long term (or not)? With the success he's had you'd have to think he's getting offers.

One of my former coworkers was the SID at the Naval academy under Paul Johnson and said once people get a taste for that campus life they don't really want to leave. Like coach Ken (won't venture to butcher his last name) at Navy....he's had bigger offers but just really likes it there.

Well Army was a perfect fit for Monken and a lot of people think coaching at a service academy was his dream job. I think he's very comfortable at West Point and I don't see him leaving anytime soon.

You would think with his success, he'd be getting offers, but realistically, not many teams with higher profiles than Army are looking to transition into the flexbone triple option. I doubt many P5's are looking his way for that exact reason.

Agreed on both accounts. He has a good bit of military history in his family from what I have heard. He loved his time at Navy under PJ, and seems to be very patriotic/respectful of the military and the men and women that choose to serve the country. I've heard he sees his position at Army as a way to "serve his country" since he didn't go into the military himself.

I don't think he will get a lot of significant P5 looks due to the flex triple option, and I think he'll be there for as long as they want him to be.

We've already played Hawai'i. As I recall, they had a legit Heisman candidate at QB (name escapes me) and a few other eventual NFL'ers and they smoked us. Plus, the all-metal stadium sucks. Imagine sitting in an uncovered 55-gallon metal barrel for 3 hours in August/September Hawai'i heat.

I'd take the Academies, Ole Miss (just for the Grove), UCLA/USC and a couple of Big 10 schools like Maryland/Minnesota/Indiana/Rutgers (not because those are sexy games, but because I want bragging rights of being able to say li'l ol' App State has a winning record against that arrogant conference).
I'm glad Southern Miss is playing App St. I'd like to play you guys about once every 4-5 years. I'd like to get a series going with Ark St. The Blake Anderson connection is intriguing.

Southern Miss already plays a LA and AL team every year, so no interest to play more from those states. However, our AD is trying to schedule more regional OOC games. So I look to see more LA and AL teams on our schedule.
I'll play. I would like to see the following matchups for App in the not so distant future.

Service academies, Memphis, WKU, MTSU, UCF, USF, Colorado State, Texas, Southern Cal, UVA, West Virginia, Ga Tech, Arkansas (just to aggravate Red Wolves), Vandy and Bama.

From what I hear along the Hudson Valley, NY area, Monken is happy at West Point. He received a contract extension last yr. The specifics never materialized, but I would assume he received a bump from his 900,000 salary. Navy HC is making 2 million a yr.

Like others have mentioned, it's unlikely Monken ever leaves West Point unless relationships turn sour for any unknown reasons. He's an excellent leader for young men, the Hudson Valley area is beautiful (similar to App State), and he's enjoying his time there while having success.
Part of my wish list is meaningless since we picked up series with Tulsa, SMU, and Memphis.

Given a preference: I'd love a home and home shot at Houston, Boise, NIU, or Air Force. I guess any Service Academy would be nice.

One day I'd like to renew acquaintances with Southern Miss and La Tech, but I've about given up on us ever playing a CUSA team outside of a bowl game.
For the Cajuns I’d personally like to see us start a ten year deal with each LaTurd and Tulane playing every other year. Tulane one year and LaTurd the next.

If we win this year, we might strike up another series:)
Southern Miss new AD wants to schedule regional schools for OOC games. Likely in 2024 we'll start another series with a SBC team.

Niumatalolo actually got some serious looks at Arizona when their job opened up but then there was a bunch of drama when it started getting out. Their QB was all over Twitter saying he didn't want to play in the triple option.

How realistic it was is anyone's guess.

BYU the year before seemed like they were making some strong moves as well, and it would have been a good fit for Niumatalolo because he's Mormon. But he ended up not going and BYU is likely going to remain streaky.

I would agree that it's likely Monken and Nimatalolo are there until they feel like they want to leave. Navy likely has a strong succession plan as I imagine Ivin Jasper would take over and Army could have something similar if Brent Davis sticks around.

I don’t believe Troy has ever played Army, Air Force, or East Carolina, but I would like to see Troy play those teams. There are Army and Air Force bases that are close to Troy, and I believe that those games would be sellouts probably. The reason why I want to play East Carolina is they remind of Troy in a lot of ways, although ECU is much bigger than Troy. Both colleges began as teachers colleges and both struggle to get respect in-state.
