Quote:Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer was placed on paid administrative leave Wednesday, as the school announced it is investigating Courtney Smith's claims that several people close to the coach knew of a 2015 allegation of domestic violence against her ex-husband, former Ohio State assistant football coach Zach Smith, who was fired in July.

Offensive coordinator Ryan Day will be the team's acting head coach during the investigation.

"We are focused on supporting our players and on getting to the truth as expeditiously as possible," the school said in a statement.

Tremendous potential to upend power within the conference.
Sad to see things like this. I hope due process is done and a just punishment if one is necessary.

In the event that Ohio State needs a new head coach after the season, names I think they would possibly pursue would include, roughly in order: Bob Stoops, James Franklin, David Shaw, Justin Fuentes, and Joe Moorhead.
Now that the imposed August 14th deadline is over for the Urban investigation, is there any indication on the direction the investigators are leaning on their decision making process.

Quote:Ohio State University football coach Urban Meyer was suspended for three games without pay in the wake of an investigation into what he did about spousal abuse allegations leveled against former assistant coach Zach Smith, the university announced Wednesday night.

Athletic Director Gene Smith was suspended without pay from August 31 to September 16, according to a summary of the investigative findings and university actions.

“Although neither Urban Meyer, nor Gene Smith condoned or covered up the alleged domestic abuse by Zach Smith, they failed to take sufficient management action relating to Zach Smith’s misconduct and retained an assistant coach who was not performing as an appropriate role model for OSU student-athletes,” the summary said.
I am both surprised and unsurprised with the decision. Long story short, I don't know how this is anything but a yes or no finding. Did Urban properly report or not? If he did, he should have been fine and there should be a paper trail of sorts. Lots of suspicious activity with the texts and emails being deleted. I am not a fan of employers knowing everything about an employee's personal life so I can somewhat sympathize with Zach Smith but the stuff that came out (special deliveries, pictures, DUI swept under the rug, etc.) that don't even involve "he said, she said" allegations or abuse, cheating, etc.

What I want to know is if Urban has these memory loss spells and loses focus and everything else that was reported, how the heck can the school justify having him coach? Isn't that a major qualification for one of the premier college coaching positions? So many questions, so few answers, lots of frustrations.
Yeah, it feels like a case of "we don't know what to do, so let's take a half measure".
