Went down to the Bengals training camp on Thursday. Logan Woodside was starting the practice in the defensive backfield, probably to get a look at NFL coverages. Working on taking the snap from under center vs. the shotgun which he looked real comfortable in. They are taking him real slowly-don't know if they are punishing him for the DUI, or don't want to overwhelm him. They don't know his real character I feel. He is a student of the playbook, and a fighter against all odds. I feel that he is going to surprise them! Barkley and Driscoll(Sp?) don't look that great to me.! I would post picks but I have to figure out how to get picks from my android phone to windows 10.

One thing about Logan is that he makes great strides year over year. It's just the start of a journey for him. Heck, Barklay is going into his 6th season and he's been with 6 different teams. No telling where Logan will be when he starts getting playing time. Hopefully we'll get to see him in some preseason action this year.
Thanks for the Woodside update, greatly appreciated. His first preseason game is Aug. 9.
The key will be (probably stating the obvious here) him getting snaps in preseason games and showing potential there, only way he would have chance at 3rd QB spot-if team keeps three-or ending up on their practice squad.
Anyone know where to find his preseason game schedule and if they're on tv?

Word on twitter is that Woodside has not been on the field since they started practicing in pads. Unknown if it is due to injury or other reasons.

Given that the Bengals had no issues signing Joe Mixon when many other teams had him off their board, I would hope it isn't for disciplinary reasons. But, haven't seen anyone report on the why yet.

Regardless of the reason, this is disconcerting as losing any snaps in practice (especially as limited as they are for 3/4th string QB) will greatly set back his evaluation time needed to determine whether he even comes close to getting into a preseason game-a real need to have any chance at making the roster. Every second of a practice is key for a UDFA. Woodside is off to a very bad start.

My bad, of course he was a late 7th rd draft pick (not undrafted FA), but point remains he was yet to take even one snap in training camp, putting him way behind any possible appearance in a pre-season game let alone chances to then make the roster only 4 weeks from now-on track for practice squad at best (or possible release) unless situation changes fast.

He was drafted... Rarely does an organization not sign someone they wasted a draft pick on. He is being punished for the DUI. Why would they not give him snaps on purpose then say he didn't show enough to keep on the practice squad??? He will stay with the Bengals and if he learns from his mistake he will get a shot. Maybe not this season but eventually. If he does something else stupid or breaks team rules he will be straight up released imediately.
6th and 7th draft picks get cut every year, some end up on practice squad some do not, if player is not getting chances to make an impressive it only hurts his chances to make roster, even practice squad. My point is that the clock is ticking, only so many chances to take a snap, every practice that goes by impacts his ability to make an impression, especially in a preseason game. Whatever the reason they are not letting him practice, it really hurts his chances especially when backup QB positions are wide open for the taking. If they are using this to punish him for the DUI its a pretty strong punishment for a guy fighting to make the team.
I'm not sure anybody knows why Woodside is not on the field right now. Reportedly he was throwing at the beginning of camp, but has not been on the field since they started in with pads. Would be strange punishment to let him throw at the start and then not now, but who knows. Maybe he has an injury they are keeping quiet on. Maybe something else has happened during camp. Who knows.
it's cincinnati a DUI is nothing to them. sounds like an injury or other issue

Odd that they would report injuries to other players being held out of training camp but not Woodside????
apparently still not practicing...hmmmm. punishment for DUI???
"Bengals backup quarterback competition to heat up during intrasquad scrimmage"

"It’s also a great opportunity for the quarterbacks on the roster to go out and show what they can do. Andy Dalton is the undisputed starter in Cincinnati, but beyond him are three guys, two of whom have a legitimate shot at being his backup.

Those two guys are Matt Barkley and Jeff Driskel. The fourth quarterback on the roster is seventh round rookie Logan Woodside who has an undisclosed injury that’s kept him out of practice for several days now. As he falls behind in the competition, it seems inevitable he ends up on the practice squad, an injury list or cut this year.

“It’s disappointing for him obviously,” quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt said via Local 12. “We’d sneak him in there and get him some reps, or he’d work with the 3’s on the other field. So he’s missing those reps. But ultimately he’s going to get healthy.”

Reported that Woodside is back from injury today.
