I also wanted to hear from those who possibly travels & actually stay in those hotels
Me and my homies usually stay at Knights Inn. It's kinda ****** just like any other cheap hotel. But it's close to the stadium and basically has an n and out and popeyes in its parking lot which makes a good snack for the square pregame. Of course theres tons of better options it you drive or uber so that's kinda moot.

You shouldn't have any issues getting a room since we usually have poor attendance on weekday games.

Downtown Austin?

No. Plenty of options in San Marcos and you won't have to worry about commuting, especially if you plan to drink. Support the Sun Belt, not the Big 12...
Don't stay in Austin. TXST doesn't have class on Fridays so the square is pretty busy on Thursday night. Go out after the game and enjoy the best bar scene in the conference. Uber back to the hotel.

There's been a hotel boom in San Marcos in the past few years...probably 7-8 new mostly inexpensive but nice and new hotels you can choose from (Courtyard Marriott, Holiday Inn Express, Candlewood Suites, Hilton Garden Inn).

The Embassy Suites is nice. Crystal River Inn is a victorian mansion downtown (near all the bars).
Bro unless things have changed in the 5 years since I've graduated, we definitely have Friday classes...

But your point still stands. Square will be lit.
It has been a long time but classes used to be cancelled on Fridays before the Texas A&I home game.

Trip advisor ratings are solid.
Any Inn with a red light affixed near the front door will do.
Hampton Inn is hands down one of the top 3. It is always one of the ones that books first.
Off topic but check out Hays Co. Bar-B-Que. It's awesome.

Best options for barbeque in San Marcos are Hays Co. and Kent Black's. Both are very, very good. I'd probably give a slight edge to Hays Co.

I remember a great road trip when I was an A&I student and traveled up to an SWT game. that school had the best looking coeds and folks there liked to party.

Do yourself a favor and drive to Lockheart and enjoy the best BBQ in all of Texas Kreuz market or Blacks is unbelievable

Kreuz is really good.

The new Kent Black's in San Marcos is the same family that owns Black's in Lockhart. They are very, very similar.

It's been a couple years since I've been to any of these places as I no longer live in the San Marcos area, but between Kreuz, Black's, Hays Co., and Kent Black's it's really tough to pick a winner. All 4 are phenomenal.
