After FC Cincinnati vacates for their new stadium, will Nippert return to its pre FCC form or are the wedges a permanent feature?
Since they were at one time mentioned as a safety measure, I would have to imagine the notches will stay.

Meh, that was just a BS excuse. I remember when Bohn brought this up while speaking at a football event and he got sort of pissed when people started laughing and booing. There was only one real reason why, and it's name starts with an "L".

Nippert is too small. I believe it's already been stated that if a world cup game even comes to Cincinnati, it will be in PBS. As soon as FCC's new stadium is built, I would doubt a meaningful, big time soccer game will ever be played in Nippert again. The most popular name during the season, as voted on by the 13 fans still sitting in the stadium during the 4th quarter of the last home game, will be awarded a permanent nameplate.
My suggestion of course would be AAU for one and ACC for the other. Perfect representation of being a few bricks shy of completing the job.

I'm OK with them buying us a new video board and I didn't mind them staying for a couple of years until they build their own euro-soccer palace. While FCC fronted the money for the notches, UC paid them back with revenues from concessions. I think doing that on UC's dime is incredibly bogus, but it's done, so I've moved on.
At one time there was talk that the notches are temporary, but I've never seen anything legal stating that FCC will return Nippert to original form. But that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
I personally cannot see money spent to restore Nippert. The seats that were removed certainly aren't needed. And who knows...when FCC quickly outgrows the West End stadium, maybe they'll make a temporary home back at Nippert in the future.

It was in the contract that was posted here, but if I remember correctly, FCC was only obligated to return Nippert if they left within xx months of the contract. That time has since past and it did not address contract extensions, let alone the new contract should they move up to MLS. The notches are staying.

We'd be on the smaller side, but in it's current capacity it wouldn't be ridiculous. There are about 5 schools hovering around the 45000 number that I think UC could get to pretty easily.
Keep in mind this list doesn't include Pittsburgh, who doesn't even have their own stadium.
So the long and short of it is yes, and no.

Interesting statistics on stadium size and record attendance. I for one never believed that stadium capacity was the reason UC didn't get invited to the P5 party in the recent expansion conversations. Stadium revenue maybe, but that's been improved with club seats and private boxes.
Louisville had a stronger profile for the ACC when it joined and the Big 12 did their Broadway casting call and chose not to invite any schools. I had heard some speculation that Texas balked at playing in Nippert. Maybe that was rumor; maybe a red herring just to create an objection. Concurrent with that, I heard it suggested that UC was willing to play the Texas game every other year (or less frequently if divisions had been set up for the Big 12) in PBS. The rationale for Texas was that they wanted to bring 20,000 fans or so. Maybe that's plausible given the numbers Oklahoma brought to PBS.
With that said, the notches, like them or not, aren't going to keep UC out of the P5. UC has demonstrated both the will and the ability to expand athletic facilities the past decade plus to meet or exceed P5 standards. If conference x informed UC that Nippert needed to have a capacity of say 45,000, that would get done. Nippert is one of the real feel good stories in college football. As Brian Kelly used to say, "the Wrigley Field of college football". It shows extremely well on national TV and creates a big time atmosphere. So the expanded, modernized Nippert Stadium isn't a barrier to P5 entry, notched or un-notched.

No, although if that were true, it would be another good reason not to remove seats from the stadium just to satisfy soccer.

As the stadium stands today, it's big enough for a P5 Conference. They could easily expand into the 50000 seat threshold, if it was necessary. That being said, I think we've missed the bus, and it wasn't Nippert holding us back.

Agree completely on stadium size for the P5. I will only add, and it's all conjecture anyway, I think we missed
a bus, but if past history is predictive, another bus will come along and UC will be better positioned when that one rolls in. We may be waiting at the bus stop for several years though.
Will the notches be removed? It depends on which Bohn statement was honest (if any). He said once that they were temporary. Then he said they were for safety.
The later may have painted him into a corner (or a notch).
Imagine the notches are removed and a player runs into a wall where a notch had been. The players attorney would hammer UC and it's insurer with the "Notches were for safety and you removed them!"
