and hopefully open a pipeline to the talent rich SE states
Middle Tennessee also had an offer in to Bragga and it sounds like he was the first choice of at least some of their fans.

Looks like COC Assistant Head Coach and former skipper for Liberty (Toman) is the likely choice for MT.

Why would he take Middle Tennessee over staying at Tennessee Tech, unless the salary offer was so much greater?

I think that’s probably just MT wishful thinking. I can’t see how MT would offer such a lucrative deal to pry him away from Tenn Tech. With his name as hot as it is, MT would probably not be the program he’d leave for...

I could see him leaving for Miss St etc...but not MT.

No offense to MT but Rice, given the history and resources (Texas recruiting etc), is a much better opportunity.
In fairness to MT they have been a winning program relatively recently and it is easier to get an at-large bid from CUSA vs the OVC.

Also, MT might fund the full 11.7 scholarships vs. a lesser amount at TN Tech.
Don't know a lot about the man, but I'm not 'in the know' and those who are seem to think he's solid. I'm looking forward to arguing again about which team (other than 2003) is the best.

Not having anything to do with the rest of your post, much of which I agree with....

but I always hated Cal's style... sprinting everywhere they went always just seemed so 'high school' to me. I really liked the swagger we had... the calm 'we've been here before' attitude. You can still be intense and enthusiastic... but I like a little swagger..
Last week this time, it seemed most of you wanted to fire JK, and thought him a terrible AD. Has the hiring of Bragga mollified you in any degree?

Hiring Bragga doesn’t change they way he handled his decision not to extend Wayne Graham. Bragga seems like a decent hire, but so did Rhoades.

Really?
Am I the only one who has found the search and the ensuing airing of dirty laundry by all parties to be absolutely disgusting?

The littany of posts by warring factions shows how close we are to a fiefdom/dictatorship fighting for control. The elections in Zimbabwe likely had less dirt than what we have seen here. The success of Rice is clearly not the primary focus. Control and influence is.

It does amaze me. To quote one of Metallicas worse albums - wheres your crown, king nothing? That said, I'd there's a fight over nothing, something is at stake somewhere. Money etc is in play.

Say no to cronyism. Say no to institutionalized failure.

Two references to Zimbabwe in the same day? Sorry, you're trying too hard, kid. Time for the over dramatic chipmunk.

Impressive that that was your takeaway from the post above. Well deflected.

Point still stands - the goal is control, influence and it appears more. Why else would there be a knife fight over a program so dysfunctional and badly in the red? On the surface, Sears under Lampert seems to be horribly run.. dig a little deeper and theres much more than meets the eye.

Seems to be similar here. Something is really rotten in the state of Denmark.
The office for Rice's President is known as Denmark?

(06-15-2018 04:02 PM)Baconator Wrote: [ -> ]Congrats to Coach Bragga, and welcome to Rice University!

Hopefully Bragga can bring all the warring factions together and achieve some unity amongst the alumni. And I hope that he will reach out to Wayne as well, and if not bring him back into the fold, at least start to heal that relationship so that Coach can be properly honored at some point.

There are going to be some who are so disenfranchised by the mishandling of the Wayne situation that they may not immediately come back into the fold, but many of us are both mentally and financially invested in the Rice Baseball program, and we're going to continue to passionately support the program going forward.

Admittedly I haven’t been keeping real close track of the Graham non renewal, but I personally have not observed anything objectionable in Rice’s handling of it. JK made the decision and shared it privately with Coach Graham, as I understand it, then it was Wayne who went public with it as if he was being mistreated. JK could not comment on it until it was completed. Pretty simple if you ask me. Wayne may be showing a little of his age, unfortunately. Yes, he is and deserves to be a legend at Rice. But when your program has been sliding into oblivion for almost a decade it seems like a change is timely. As to the former players “angling for his job”, what’s JK supposed to do about that? I find myself wishing Rice had replaced Wayne with Pierce long ago.

This is an excellent summary of reality....

Can we PLEASE take these continued attacks on Wayne out of the thread welcoming our new head coach. 03-banghead

Same for the attacks on JK.
i think it is a good hire.
Rice baseball facilities are so much better then Middle Tennessee. They have a way to go to catch up to Rice baseball.
