Someone forgot they had a paper due at the last minute and threw this together.
Football will be a no go at VCU until they can find a football jersey large enough for Pararotti. Not to mention dirty enough.
The writer left out a major con...competition with men’s basketball for limited financial resources!
...and then they could join us in CUSA.
I am not sure what there is to laugh about. I was a student in 1984 and 1985. I was one of a group of maybe 25 students pushing for football at ODU. We even gave out buttons saying "ODU Football" at a MBB game at Scope (my wife and I made them). This resulted largely in confused looks by the recipients. Our efforts culminated in a meeting with Jim Jarett where he made it clear that ODU football would be over his dead body. Nothing else happened at the time. We made a number of the arguments that the VCU article did. We used Georgia Southern (I think) as an example of a new program that had been successful. A lot of water has since passed under the bridge and here we are in the big leagues (sort of). I have my season tickets and love our team, as well as MBB and WBB. I am happy, however, that although our limited efforts and frail arguments of the 1980's may not have played a material role in the football program, they were not a waste of time. I am not ready to write off all chances of a VCU football program.
