Ripping this issue out of the hands of dems? Big FU to Sessions?

Quote:WASHINGTON — President Trump appeared to break with his own administration’s policy on Friday, saying that he was likely to support a legislative proposal to leave the decision to states about whether to legalize marijuana.

Mr. Trump was asked about a new bill introduced by Senator Cory Gardner, Republican of Colorado, and Senator Elizabeth Warren, Democrat of Massachusetts.

“We’re looking at it. But I probably will end up supporting that, yes,” Mr. Trump said to reporters as he departed Washington to attend the Group of 7 summit meeting in Canada.

Easiest gimmie in his Presidency. No downside as far as I can see. Anybody whose supported him up to this point certainly isn’t going to stop because of legal weed. The evangelicals might not like it but what are they gonna do, vote Democrat? Nope. And he would definitely gain some new supporters. Mighy hurt the democrats but they should have done this years ago, no one to blame but themselves.
Why do so many people want to smoke dope ? It turns you into a pliable, easily led deadbeat moron.

Smoking weed plays right into the hands of TPTB.

It should always be an illegal narcotic, imo.
As appy said, this will win him some votes and shouldnt cost him any.
Deadbeat shiftless dopes won't vote for Trump.

They're too out of it to even know what day of the week it is.

No upside, IMO.
Major republican donors have been buying prime locales in Austin for dispensaries for when it becomes legal here

Awww... man? I thought you were a fellow libertarian? Live and Let Live?
Sessions might be toast. That or Trump is trying to get him to resign. His hate for Sessions is real. Sessions made the mistake of not being corrupt enough.(recused)
I’ve changed a bit on this myself, and think it’s definitely best left the States.

Let have their citizens vote yea or nay, then set State law to deal with driving under its influence, minors, selling to minors etc. tax sales and REQUIRE that money go directly to substance abuse AND recovery programs. Robust ones. Not earmarked for “public good” where it ends up paving roads or building playgrounds.

If I’m 28 and smoke on weekends on my deck or while camping why does anyone care? Certainly shouldn’t be locked up and made a criminal cause of it.

We could ALWAYS find it while in HS, college (I gave it up after about 18 months of trying it in HS, just didn’t like the stuff) etc. so can all the kids today, what’s the point?

I’m not so sure about that, I think sessions was just more of “I’m going to insist the laws be followed, you don’t like the laws? Change them. We can’t just decide what laws to enforce and what laws to ignore- pot, immigration, sharing classified docs on unsecured servers etc...”

They change the law, Sessions may well be right there to accept that and move on.

Looks like we are seriously outnumbered on this. There are all kinds of potential negatives by doing this.

She was Eric Holder part deux.
Good move, state's issue. He should support the same for abortion.
While not in favor of legal weed, I'm in favor of making it a state issue.

I don't have a problem with it. Yeah, it turns you into a low life if you abuse it, but that's no different than alcohol or prescription drugs. Some are just predestined to abuse and addiction.

It should be up to each state on their state laws but today you can still get sent to Federal prison and ruin your life. So the Feds and states need to be on the same page.

I don't smoke but think this is something that is a no brainer for the President to back. I thought he made a mistake when he backed Sessions on this early on. I think there's enough research to say pot is no more dangerous than beer. Plus there's enough info to say it helps medical for some.

Time to make it legal Federally and those states that want to follow. Let state law dictate how it will be treated in the under the influence.

Then President Trump needs to revisit the forfeiture laws...that is another thing he missed on, early on. I personally think he has no ideal how that's being abuse. In his attempt to be strong with his backing of the police he rushed on his judgment.

Beg to differ on beer comparisons, it is already established that it causes brain damage in teens. Plus it has more tar than tobacco. Way too soon to know total long term effects.

Guess what.....
any law will not include teenage use. Before you say, they will smoke it anyways. Well if thats the case then laws are not working.

Studies have shown that THC may help to keep our brains from 'slowing down' as we get older. Just as there are laws on the books covering teen age drinking if pot is made legal those same laws will be there to protect teens.

There's been many teen deaths from alcohol poison but I can't find one death just from a teen smoking pot. That the actually pot smoking without any other factors causing a death
