suprising with the investigations going on around there.

Unbelievable. New President and new AD. And Pearl refused to speak with school's investigators after the assistant coach got arrested. Keeping your mouth shut works sometimes.
He's got it rolling down there. Most smart folks knew he would.
The extension makes sense. My guess is Auburn has a clause to fire Pearl with cause and owe him nothing if the FBI or others prove wrongdoing. Some opponent fans and media members will wag their fingers, but few Auburn fans will care as long as Pearl wins.

How many recruits did he land this year to replace his leading scorer who transferred?
(ESPN)

11. Auburn

Previous rank: No. 11

Yes, Bruce Pearl lost a few key players off a squad that shared the SEC championship. But the drama is over for the Tigers, who move forward with a collection of talent that's still among the best in the country.

Austin Wiley, who missed last season due to his connection to the FBI bribery probe, tested the NBA waters but ultimately withdrew. Mustapha Heron (16.4 PPG), the team's leading scorer, entered the draft but withdrew and decided to transfer. That's a significant loss, but Bryce Brown and Jared Harper will both return.

Desean Murray, the team's leading rebounder, decided to leave and compete elsewhere as a grad transfer next season. But Danjel Purifoy, who also missed last season due to the FBI probe, is set to return and Anfernee McLemore should bounce back from a serious leg injury at some point next season. The Tigers will vie for the SEC title in 2018-19.

(CBS)

10. Auburn
Coach: Bruce Pearl
2017-18 record: 26-8
Notable players definitely gone: Mustapha Heron, Davion Mitchell, Desean Murray
Other expected departures: None
Notable players expected to return: Bryce Brown, Austin Wiley, Danjel Purifoy, Jared Harper, Chuma Okeke, Anfernee McLemore, Horace Spencer, Malik Dunbar
Expected additions: Samir Doughty
Why the Tigers are ranked here: The Tigers are losing Mustapha Heron to transfer, which is surprising. But they were expected to lose him anyway, one way or another, so the end result is the same. And, even with that development, Auburn is still returning six of the top eight scorers from a team that shared the SEC regular-season title last season. So another league championship is very much a possibility.

Little shorsighted.

I would say 4 then 5, then 7, then 13 wins in conference is "trending up."

Pair that with consensus top 15 preseason rankings for this season. Plus they have three underclassmen who should be poised to be great for the 2019-2020 season. Plus Jamal Johnson will be eligible.

He inherited a dumpster fire, at what is historically the worst basketball school in the worst conference, at a school with an Under Armour contract. It's a marvel that he's been able to do what he's done at this point. He did a good job of separating himself from the FBI stuff, to where, if you actually read the Person indictments, it's believable that he didn't know what was going on. Is he clean? Absolutely not. Auburn reporting minor recruiting violations to the NCAA, but I'm confident that he didn't have anything to do with the FBI nonsense.

This contract is well deserved. I hope he's at Auburn until he retires.

Yes that is good for Auburn and he has them up from where they were.

But honestly was the SEC really that good this year.

Auburns best OOC win was MTSU and they tied with a UT team that was lightly thought of as conference champions. We will see if this continues.

Was the SEC good? Yes. Looking around, it seemed to unanimously be the 3rd best conference in basketball. It's unfortunate because it's only going to get tougher. I felt the same way as you during the season though.

Not going to disagree on Auburn's OOC. Based on them being in the Maui tournament next season, and that having been announced like last summer, I'm thinking Bruce saw 2018-2019 as his breakout, but it came a year early. Depending on how he feels about the Heron transfer, I think this season's OOC will be much tougher.

We will see...
Pearls line, "we still have plenty of weapons left", after several players suspended on weapons charges is still the best line ever.
It's Auburn basketball...nobody there cares what happens if they get hammered. A winning program is just icing on the cake at Auburn. Its damn the torpedo's full steam ahead. Football would be a different matter.

This is the accurate take. As long as Pearl's actions don't impact the football program, he'll be at Auburn...and I'll love every minute of it.

yes fishboy I am
Based on the title of this thread and who we're discussing, I didn't really think this would be a contract discussion.
