Looks like some dramatics in bottom of 9th to win. Walner HR maybe.

Wallner hit a 3-run bomb to tie it. Blaylock walk-off HR to win it.
Just going to be another year with rough pitching, imo. If it turns out that's not the case, then we'll be a strong team.
True. Everyone not named Nick Sandlin got straight up exposed in that regional last year

True. Those two lineups were really good, though, and far better than anyone we will see in conference play. I suspect that we have enough pitching to get us in position for a regional again.

Feels like we are back to where Corky had us: Consistently in a regional but not much of a threat. Pitching just isn't deep and our hitting doesn't see enough SEC/ACC/high mid-major level pitching to know what to do with it in a regional.

Beagle, what are you hearing about how Wallner has looked on the mound?
UNO has their schedule out now. We host them on 2-26-19 and go to UNO on 4-24-19

https://unoprivateers.com/schedule.aspx?path=baseball

UNO opens the season with a 3 game homestand vs Michigan St. Any chance the Spartans make a stop in Hattiesburg the tuesday/wednesday afterwards??

Thanks. UNO typically very late release (late November/December) so didn't catch that. Had someone tell me tonight that we are at Troy the Tuesday following opening weekend, so no Michigan State at PTP.

Also added the 4 unannounced C-USA series. Apr. 5-7 v. Marshall, Apr. 12-14 @ FIU, May 3-5 v. FAU, May 16-18 v. UAB. UTSA and WKU releasing their schedule makes it much easier to figure out through process of elimination (my guess a few weeks ago missed on a few).

2019 schedule w/ 54 dates. Remember we can play 56 max. We will probably play a midweeker on Mar. 5 or 6 in between Gonzaga and Holy Cross. Maybe SWAC or some snowbird needing a game between weekend series (like Columbia in 2017).

I caught most of the exhibition (had to leave early, but saw Wallner's 2 innings on the bump). He looked good. Some scouts had radar guns and were showing him in the mid 90s. Also seems to have added a cut fastball. Only baserunner allowed was on a little nubber in no man's land. Berry has said in the podcast interviews that he likes him in a midweek role (like Braley for much of 2017), but if he continues to pitch at a high level in the scrimmages/exhibtions, it could be tough to keep him out of the weekend rotation.

Was told that Tulane exhibition will be 18 innings. Hoping someone can get a box score or live tweet it.
Troy at Trustmark. That’s interesting.

So the only game I missed was Southern on 3/5.

Troy game is at Trustmark, not Troy, like someone told me. But their site is showing Biloxi???

SELA game must have been cancelled, because it's not on our schedule or theirs.
Biloxi makes more sense than Pearl...
Heard this weekend that we had SELA lined up, but they realized that game was in the middle of their exam week, so they had to call it off. Shouldn't they have known that before scheduling?

Troy was originally planned for Biloxi, but the Overtime Sports guy got canned, so we moved it to Trustmark.

Also sounds like LeBlanc has the edge over Franklin in CF. That was one of the biggest questions for me. If the season started tomorrow, we'd likely start 2 true freshmen (LeBlanc, Lynch) and 1 redshirt freshman (McGillis).

How will that affect the CUSA tournament or will it? Seems like there were always issues with him and the Shuckers organization.
Still concerned about pitching. Hope they prove me wrong. Ostrander brought in some good pitchers for Tech. Hopefully he can do the same here.
Also, Kendall Rogers had a couple interesting bits from his USM article a few weeks ago:

- Our rotation start to the start the year will be Powers, Powell, and then probably Jackson or Nelms. Jackson wasn't 100% healthy last year and apparently Nelms made "tremendous" improvement in the fall.
- Wallner will start as the midweek starter, but it sounds like they're trying to get him up to speed to where he can be an option on the weekend. He was 92-95 in the fall with his slider having more movement
- Cooper will start at SS with Lynch at 3B
- Slater looks like he's going to have a massive 2019 season
- Freshman Gabe Shepard is a "wild card" as Rogers put it. 95-96 in HS but blew out his arm and had to have surgery, otherwise he would have been drafted. They don't know if he'll pitch in 2019 but it'd be big if he did

My prediction is you will see some changes in the weekend rotation and lineup as the year goes on (duh). Our first couple midweek games are pretty light (Troy, UNO, Southern). If Wallner cannot show competence in these games, he will not move to the rotation. If he does, we could very well see him on the weekend by league play against Louisiana Tech. I don't think we'll see Jackson or Nelms in the rotation very long, if they do well in OOC play they can just pitch midweek. If Shepard gets healthy, then he could emerge as a starter late in the year.

Position players .... Lynch should stick at 3rd unless he just sucks, which I don't think he will. I think McGillis eventually takes over at SS unless Cooper has a Nick Dawson type transformation offensively. Seems like Cooper always starts the year as the guy then loses his spot. DH ..... Bowen and Blaylock both split time with maybe Hoard getting in the mix. Blaylock will probably play RF when Wallner pitches.

My guess at what we'll put out there on 2/15 vs. Purdue:

1) Montenegro - LF
2) Guidry - 2B
3) Wallner - RF
4) Slater - 1B
5) Lynch - 3B
6) Blaylock OR Bowen - DH
7) Cooper - SS
8) Donaldson - C
9) LeBlanc OR Franklin - CF
P - Powers
