Athletic Director Sheahon Zenger has been relieved of his duties. He had hired Turner Gill, Charlie Weis and David Beaty for the football program. Kansas football went 12-72 during Zenger’s stint. He was also overseeing a $350 million renovation project for the football stadium.

Wonder if how he oversaw the football program will have an impact on Kansas' conference affiliation when the Big 12 GOR expires. Would it be similar to Maryland (large debt, make move to bigger conference)?

The future AD will have tough time digging Kansas out from the bottom of the Big 12. Kansas State may be due for a decline once Bill Snyder retires again. Iowa State appears to have hired well with Matt Campbell.
Turner Gill was a Few Perkins hire. Perkins resigned days after Gill lost his initial game to NDSU.

Oh sh**! Don't listen to them, Danny White.
Bringing in Weis should've been grounds for termination, that's just stupidity. Extending Beaty through 2021 after going 2-10 his second season was pretty moronic too. Shows some balls on KU's part though, their basketball has stayed on top so making this move basically on football grounds (or so it appears) sends a bit of a message that having a football program where it is now is unacceptable.
Firing him was long overdue. It was a fast drop to the bottom under Zenger and this season looks to be terrible as well.
He'd be great at a school without football. Get on it DePaul!
Kansas should consider Jurich for their AD. If anyone could come up with a plan to grow Kansas football, he could.

They previously had a grifter as AD in Lew Perkins and the four he hired involved in the $2M theft of tickets. They really don't need another one.

How does that relate to Jurich? Louisville couldn't dig anything up on Jurich & they desperately tried & basically honored his contract in a settlement. He officially was fired without cause. The new leadership at the UofL wanted a fresh start, you can't compare him to a thief.

Football recruiting has to be a big plus at Kansas. Like Jurich would see this as a move to improve his position at getting another great job.
Especially with the Big 12-2 conference security.

Not a bad idea. He already has most of the settlement with L'Ville - I think. If he turns Kansas FB around again with a good hire, picks up the donations, and draws the fans back over a few years before he moves on after rebuilding his image - its a win - win for both sides. 02-13-banana 02-13-banana 04-cheers

ADW isn't going anywhere. Especially not Kansas, and especially not after the fat raise he just got.

I wouldn't buy that one. He was hired to run an entire athletic department. Basketball may be KU's top program, but he had to run that fractioned. Just because football may be off the books at another school, it's not like basketball is the only program in the portfolio. How he managed football, the coaching/staffing...those are some horrible hires. You may not be blessed with a good football program, but at least show an eye for talent. Hoops took care of itself, and he had to do little. Football had to be addressed...he failed big time. My guess is, the guy isn't a good judge of coaching talent in general.

But I get it. And Kansas is really unique. And you can better believe those other basketball-first FBS programs, like Duke, Indiana, Purdue, etc., feel fortunate that they aren't like Kansas. Kansas should be no different than Duke or Indiana, with a fan and donor base that are cool with mediocre or bad football so long as basketball runs the show. Deep down, Kansas' base wants both. Kansas could be like UCLA or Arizona, if Kansas ever sees a bad hoops hire...a revolving door and a thankless place to work where the specters of coaches and teams past cast a legendary and fictitious, thus, immeasurable shadow for others to reach or perform. Where basketball always has to be championship-caliber, and football consistently competitive...yeah, who's really doing that?

Just a very, very, very poor attempt at humor.

I would only believe Jurich would take this job if he was sure Kansas was a BIG realignment candidate. He would not have the pressure of building a football championship team.

I don't think there is much pressure to build a championship football team at Kansas. More of a we'd like to experience this thing we see on TV called bowl games, pressure.

The pressure I'd worry more about is that KU hasn't lifted the NCAA men's basketball tournament trophy since 2008.

Their basketball has still been good enough to be considered by the BIG.

Jurich isn't the wondering type, he would stay at Kansas until retirement. A conference commissioners job maybe the exception. Jurich had plenty of opportunities to leave Louisville over his two decades here. Indiana came calling back when Louisville was still in CUSA & was getting pushback from pushing Crum out for example.

Jurich has a knack for finding unknown football coaches to build a program. He made 5 football hires while at Louisville, only 1 was a bust. I would say that 1 bust was his only 1 when considering all of his hires throughout all sports. His other flaw was staying far to loyal to coach Pitino.

His football hires took Louisville from CUSA to the Big East & ultimately to the ACC. His fundraising transformed Louisville athletic facilities across the board. Athletics have risen & is now sustaining excellent APR scores as well, 10 programs at the UofL recorded perfect APR scores for 2016-17.

Recruiting at UL is not the same as recruiting in Kansas. Kansas has been recruiting Texas for years and have not built even an average team.

I did not say he would be wondering, but want a team infused in a money conference.
