Quote:A South Carolina NAACP chapter president who says he was racially profiled during a traffic stop.
"Tonight, I was racially profiled by Timmonsville Officer CAUSE I WAS DRIVING A MERCEDES BENZ AND GOING HOME IN A NICE NEIGHBORHOOD," Timmonsville NAACP President Rev. Jerrod Moultrie said in an April 13 Facebook post, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

"He made a comment that the officer accused him of having drugs in the car,” Timmonsville Police Chief Billy Brown said, according to the station. “He said that his wife and grandchild was in the car. He asked them not to move because the officer looked as if he might shoot them or something. He also made mention that the officer continued to ask him about his neighborhood. Why was he in that neighborhood? And threaten[ed] to put him in jail in reference to something dealing with the registration to the vehicle."

If not for body cam.....

that' officer was overtly kind and generous.....

'you're a lyin' DA if you don't know swapping tags is a violation....

and there you have it.....
President of the NAACP and a Rev. that owns a Benz... Enough said. Quite the racket indeed.
I hate when people don't signal, but that's a pretty weak reason to pull someone over. Guess that's small town policing for you though.
You should stop referring to your car by brand when it’s as old as that piece of crap. It just makes you sound like a *******.

we finally indicted and prosecuted our recently outed mayor's right hand man in the 'burg.....the honorable Rev. Fairley and sons

those guys knew XACLY! who he was.....

his judgment day is coming one day soon....it's just a matter of time...
Maybe they shouldn't want all cops to wear body cams at all times. Messes with their narrative.

Depends on the time of night and the location most of the time. I spoke with a friend of mine with Timmonsville PD when this first hit the news locally and they were doing a targeted patrol of the area due to some vehicle break-ins. Typically when you are targeting an area for special reasons like this you stop anything you legally can. We caught a similar burglar for no tag light. Pulled him over and the backseat was full of car stereos, CD cases, tools, etc. Normally a tag light out in our department was an add-on warning for some other violation and not a reason for a stop since SC tags have been printed on reflective material for so long, but when you are doing a targeted patrol you tighten down the screws and stop folks for stuff you normally would just ignore.

Oh and Timmonsville is almost 80% black so you wouldn't last long there if you were truly a racist.

now that the 'burg has grown to a level of necessity to obey the p's and q's/dot the I's and cross the t's, it's been impressive to watch our locals become become more responsible at the helm when it comes to signaling over the past 5 decades....

when it was dirt roads and 100k (surrounding) fewer, it was never a concern.....

generating revenue is a critical element for any municipality......oh yeah, the 'burg is easily over 50% black.....my white arse got pulled over the other day due not having my safety chains attached.....

my white privilege got me off with a warning 03-wink

disclaimer: the moto po-po was black
I guess if you're in a town whose median income for a family is $29,000, that's considered a nice neighborhood? Unless it wasn't actually Timmonsville where he was pulled over?

It certainly looks like the cop was completely in the right, and the guy was lying big-time.

BTW, I'm looking up Timmonsville on wikipedia and for a small town (2300 people), they've had some famous people from there - FBI agent Melvin Purvis, NASCAR driver Cale Yarborough and NFL player John Abraham, among others.

Wikipedia also says this about the police force -- In 2012 the police force was disbanded due to lack of funds. It was revived in 2014.

I will never defend every small town because the overwhelming majority of them do have a revenue generation mandate coming down from on high.

The town I served as da Po-Po with wasn't like that. I never set out to be da Po-Po, it came to me in the course of my fire service career. When an arson task force was set up the law enforcement side wanted the fire side to at least be certified as reserve officers so that we could make arrests and had an idea what to look for on the criminal justice side. Me and one other Brother decided that this certification shouldn't go to waste and decided to volunteer as reserve officers with some small department that needed the help. We talked about it and both decided that we didn't want to go to a revenue generation department so we asked the folks we were dealing with on the arson team and they pointed us towards the department we both joined. I absolutely loved it. It provided me with a view of public safety from a side I never had a clue about. I gave it up when my physical limitations made me leave the fire service but I miss both every single day.

Our Chief had a philosophy: "If they are nice to you think about if you would really be pissed over a ticket rather than a warning" and that's what we lived by. If someone was a dick they got ticketed for everything we could get away with. If they were nice they usually got a warning, including the dude we stopped for 90 in a 55 who as me and my FTO were walking up said "I'm an effing dumb***. Just shoot me now." He was cool about it, was polite to us, and knew he had ****** up. We cut him a warning for 60 in a 55. The flip side is the dude we pulled over one night for suspected DUI because of meandering between lanes six times in the span of a half mile. We wrote him for improper lane change, failing to signal, not having proof of insurance, and illegal tint just because he was a dick.
Not shocked at all...sadly

I've been pulled over for it, got a nice warning.... Almost an identical stop aside from the fact I had the correct registration.

He stopped me, told me what I did...

I apologized, admitted I did it, and *cough* mentioned *cough* I had a spotless record.

He went back to his car with my info, came back five minutes later and told me he'd hate to ruin my record so I should be more careful going forward.
