Dan.

Otherwise known as Chipdip.

Chipdip was not Dan.

Chipdip was Dan’s message board persona.

Dan was a seasoned, wise, thoughtful, and introspective man.

Who cared about the world. And people. And about WMU.

And who, above all else, loved his family

During his journey, through his example, he taught me as much about courage, endurance, toughness, and LOVE as is humanly possible.

And he will be missed.

His example will live on.
This is either a very sad post, for a very bad joke.

I'm hoping it's just a joke. As much as Dan and I disagree, his love of all things WMU was immense. I would hate to lose him.

Sad day in Bronco Nation

RIP Chipdip
Rest in Peace, Dan.

We'll never meet a more die-hard WMU fan. You will be missed.
I am very sad to hear of Dan's passing. We often disagreed, but I respected his passion for WMU, for his family, and for politics. He always brought energy and controversy no matter where he posted. He and I went round and round on twitter. I'll miss that and hope he's debating God on all things. RIP, Dan.

The Good Lord and Dan probably agree on most things...including that CMU is a hellhole.

Loved 'ya Dan/Chipdip. Thanks for the laughs through the years. Blessings to your family.
I will miss his posts as they were always insightful and well thought out. Some of the back and forth threads he had with folks (especially the CMU fans) were very entertaining.

I'm sure he will get an internet connection in heaven so he can have chat board debates with that great CMU fan Satan over on the dark side.

He will be missed....
Incredibly saddened by this news. Agree with him or disagree, Dan was a huge Bronco fan.

Over the years, I have read his posts, and he often times had keen insight and news about Western.

Prayers and thoughts to his family.
Nobody loved WMU and the Broncos more than Dan.

And he was a great teacher in KPS.

I can't express how much I am saddened by this news, but ess came pretty close.

Going to be praying for him and his family. To say he will be missed seems insufficient.
We need to put together a fund for this football season... something in his name from his forum brotherhood...

If a fund is created let us at CI know, I had many fun, meaningless battles with him on the boards. I knew he had a good heart and knew his passion for WMU. I am sorry for your loss and please if anyone knows his family give my sincere condolences. RIP chipdip.

And the world became just a little less interesting. Prayers up
Wow, that just sucks. It was just yesterday that I was curious where he’s been.

He’s been part of WMU’s online fan presence since the first flickers of the Internet came into being, starting with SportsOnly and Mlive. He had his fights and friends, and I don’t think anyone put their soul and effort in Bronco sports in social media as he did.

I know he faced serious health battles over the years. He is now at rest.
Thank you for all of your kind words.

I am Dan's son, a fellow WMU graduate. My dad loved WMU and was proud to be a graduate with a masters from Western Michigan.

I also know my father loved these boards and the community of all of his fellow Broncos. Even if it may have not felt that way. He was passionate about all he believed in, family, education, and community.

I know he loved you all as well. You brought him years of entertainment, debate, argument, and friendship.

Sad indeed.

Proverbs 27:17

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Proverbs 27:19

As water reflects the face, so one's life reflects the heart.

I didn't meet Dip. But in reading his written thoughts I think I got to know him. Not like many of you who really knew him personally.

But I think, at least in my mind these 2 verses accurately describe Dip.

He had strong opinions and if you weren't up to it you were cheese cloth to his iron. Other times, with sparks flying you were worked hardened (but you couldn't admit it to him) by the thought provoking exchanges and usually better for it.

He made it abundantly clear what was important to him. On this board he didn't shy away from that representation. For those who didn't agree you could never truthfully say you didn't know. He was blunt and too the point. That's hard honesty. You knew his heart.

And I think that's good.

Will miss you Dip. 03-thumbsup

Your Dad was one of a kind. Bronco Nation is better off for his passion and knowledge.
Wow. I am so sorry to hear this. Dan was a great Bronco and a great man. He gave me a lot of life advice over the years. I never got to meet him in person.

We once made some stupid bet here (I thought he was joking) and of course I won the bet. A couple weeks later a check arrived in my dorm mailbox from him paying up 03-lmfao. I’d love to triple that amount he paid me and donate it to some sort of fund in his memory.
I’m so sorry to hear of Dan’s passing. As a 1967 grad I felt I had something in common with Dan, an old-timers viewpoint. We’ve lost an irreplaceable WMU dynamo. God bless you Dan.
