CUSA Bowl games - not sure of exact lineup but tried to include games we've had agreements in recent years:

Sat Dec 15 (all times central)
1:00 PM - New Mexico
8:00 PM - New Orleans

Tues Dec 18
6:00 PM - Boca Raton

Wed Dec 19
7:00 PM Frisco

Thurs Dec 20
7:00 PM - Bad Boy Mowers/Gasparilla

Fri Dec 21
11:30 AM - Bahamas

Sat Dec 22
2:30 PM - Armed Forces

Wed Dec 26
12:30 - Heart of Dallas

and some interesting days/times for bowl games
Sat Dec 22 @ 9:30 pm CT - Hawaii Bowl - usually played on Christmas Eve but with that day being Monday ESPN has Monday Night Football

and on that note there are no bowl games from Sun Dec 23 through Tues Dec 25

playoff games are on Sat Dec 29 at 3:00 pm and 7:00 PM and not New Years Eve/Day
This is supposedly our lineup. I don't know what the Cherry Tart Bowl is but it sounds pretty good.

– Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla vs. American Athletic
– Bahamas Bowl vs. American Athletic
– Cheribundi Tart Cherry Bowl vs. MAC
– Gildan New Mexico Bowl vs. Mountain West
– Hawai’i Bowl vs. Mountain West
– R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl vs. Sun Belt
– Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl vs. Big Ten

Secondary Agreements
– Walk-On’s Independence Bowl
Conditional if ACC or SEC can’t fill a spot.

– DXL Frisco Bowl
Conditional if American Athletic or MAC can’t fill a spot.

And we need to make sure that the school that goes to the HOD bowl is going to be one that will sell tickets and hotel rooms for a game played noon on the day after Christmas in Dallas. We may lose it soon otherwise:

The Heart of Dallas Bowl still has a pulse, but it no longer has taxpayer dollars to keep it alive.

The City Council's Quality of Life, Arts and Culture Committee on Monday rejected paying $800,000 to ESPN over two years to keep the sparsely attended football game alive. Committee members said they're not totally turning down the game, which is one of the few football games held every year at the 92,000-capacity Cotton Bowl Stadium. But the council members want a better deal with the sports network.

That's not true at all. This game was never funded by the Hotel Occupancy Tax. VisitDallas has never spent a dime of their budget on this bowl and declined the invitation when they were asked.

The HOD is funded by Parks and Rec money. All C-USA needs to focus on is placing a team there that will best fill the venue, and buy merch. That is how Dallas makes money off this bowl. The HOD makes no money off of hotels.

Truth is Dallas would rather drop C-USA and add higher preforming teams from P5 conferences, but they are too cheap to spend more money.

Here is a link to a Dallas Morning News story on the subject. It is very sobering.

Sponsors come and go. "The Boca Raton Bowl" stays.
I just read the article about the Heart of Dallas, and it sounds like it's about to fold. That's our best bowl game. Those folks in Dallas need to share the expense or it's gone. I didn't realize that the hotel tax revenue meant so much to the financial bottom line. They need fans who travel well and who spend the night.

You need to read more closely...

City funds for the HOD have never come from VisitDallas. None of the hotel tax monies have ever paid for the HOD, and they won't pay for it next year either.

The Dallas Park and Recreation Department has always funded this bowl. They are not willing to pay the current amount and are reviewing options, but VisitDallas, the department that controls the hotel tax money is not going to fund the bowl. So, our travel to this bowl isn't going to impact their bottom line.

Based on how the game is going to be funded and how the bowl actually earns money, C-USA needs to send the team that can fill the most seats and buy the most stuff, and that is what will most likely happen.
It would be so much better if it was the KellyBundy Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl

It looks like the burden off paying $800 to the participants needs to be shared among three or four entities to make this work. Visit Dallas isn't involved right now because the bowl doesn't generate enough in hotel occupancy. If it did, it would be worth their while to kick in some money. Who knows, that could be $200 k right there. It looks like they need a Big Twelve #7 against Rice, Louisiana Tech, UTSA, or UTEP. I'm reading it right.
This game also needs a new date and start time. No one is going anywhere the day after Christmas but North Texas. No one. If North Texas isn't CUSA champ in that scenario, no one is going. The date is awful.

Tech had a good turnout. It’s only been the day after Christmas three times Tech vs Illinois (31,297), USM vs Washington (20,229), and Utah vs. West Virginia (20,507). It did better when it was a New Year’s Day game though.
