One of my brother firefighters died of cancer about 10 years ago. We don't believe it was a line of duty cancer, but he was on the job until he simply couldn't do it anymore. He was married to an EMT with our county and they had two young boys. One of those folks who would always brighten your day. A damn good Brother.

Tonight was his prom. When his mom was talking about where to take pictures he only had one request: go to his Dad's firehouse and take a picture with his Dad's engine and his Dad's helmet. His Mom posted them on Facebook. Man...he's the spitting image of his Dad. Porky would be proud. Judging by the hearts on the pics his "uncles" sure as hell are.
True public service without the riches of our good ole boys in Washington. God bless his family and all of those who really sacrifice for the rest of us.
Nice story, thanks for sharing!04-cheers
Man I was reading that and something got in my eye.
A very special bond indeed. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice. His legacy lives on.
The love that son has for his father will be with him his whole life. It is a part of him. Thanks for sharing that story.
We have a family friend who was a firefighter and killed in an car accident about a year ago leaving 2 teenage kids. The guys from his shift at his station still take his son golfing and both kids are welcome to come by for a visit/ dinner any time they'd like. It helps the kids. His daughter took a school trip to NYC which her dad was supposed to chaperone. Instead she carried a patch from his station to a FDNY station. When she told those guys her story, they all hugged her, took some pics, etc. These are guys who obviously didn't know her or her dad, but still share some commonality.

Kap- as someone who has family and many friends who are firemen (and cops too), let me say thank you for what you do.
I knew I'd talked about this back when, so an update.

Porky's oldest son, who insisted on prom pictures with his Dad's helmet in front of his Dad's engine started rookie school this week at his Dad's fire department. He's going to be a good Jake. Despite the fact that he's under a five week social media blackout his "uncles" have provided him with great advice 03-lmfao

He lost his Dad to cancer and his Mom is fighting Stage 4 breast cancer. She was supposed to be dead a year ago, yet she's still here and getting around better than most. Her son has 20 weeks until he graduates...she'll make it that far, I have no doubt. She's tougher than a $2 steak. But say a prayer that she does make it if you have the chance. I'd appreciate it.
Kap,

Smith prayers coming your family's way. I have an old gf from college with Stage 4 Liver cancer. One daughter just started Va. Tech and the other is a HS junior (like my oldest). I understand the "goals" set to be there for your kids' milestones. Such things matter, and those afflicted need goals for which to strive.
Additionally, I made some comments about the arrest of Parscale that I know were not to your liking. I have been military, but not law enforcement, so you are correct in assuming that I don't know what I don't know. We can disagree on such things, and I fully acknowledge my lack of experience in such matters. Regardless, your posts remain amongst those with which I find common ground. Be well!
Wow. Prayers sent for both mother and son!
Kap, that's a tough story to absorb as I point to the sky in solace...best wishes to the family moving forward...
Prayers sent.
Prayers sent to all, including prayers of thanksgiving for all those uncles.
Prayers from this side of the world for these folks.
