Shane picks up a free agent contract with the NE Pats.
Great spot for him! Congrats Shane

He’ll have a hard time sticking with the Pats but hopefully makes enough of an impression to land somewhere for good.
Christian Blake signed with the Falcons

Christian Blake signed with the Atlanta Falcons.
Jones, Lurry and Huff all still left unsigned. Not even a minicamp invite yet. Surprised...

I'm surprised with Huff. Big, fast, and explosive. Just played for a coaching staff that underutilized his skills.
Congrats Shane! Congrats Blake! As far as Huff and Bobby Jones they will be signed soon....

I hope so, but the odds are much tougher at this point. If you’re not signed the night the draft ends, it’s pretty unlikely in case something crazy happens. If you look, most teams have already maxed out their UDFA spots and were inviting kids as minicamp tryouts last night. I still can’t believe they didn’t even get an invite.

I hope you’re right though. I think all 3 deserve a shot

Awesome! Any news on Lurry or Jones?

Remember when people around here thought Lurry would be a high draft pick? I seem to recall some people thinking he could have even been a 1st rounder like English.

Little to no 5’8 170 lbs guys are getting drafted period let alone going in the 1st round

I did think he’d get a UDFA shot at the very least since he’s a former 1st team All American. Beebe isn’t much bigger and he is so I’m very surprised about Lurry.

On another note, Lurry said last month that he would have left and goto anther School just like JJ did had he had more eligibility. Wonder is this is going to be the new norm? If so, that sucks for the mid-majors

Total generational rift ... and this is coming from a 38 year old guy who looks 32 and maybe still (falsely) feels like part of the current up and coming generation..niu is what it is... it’s an opportunity.. if you have the goods, you will succeed ... I had a nearly 4.0 gpa in accounting, worked at some big firms and have had more happen positively in my life than I ever dreamed ... I think the JJ situation is what it is.. if he balled out next year and had a 100 tackles at niu he gets drafted ... maybe 6th round vs 3rd round at tcu if he puts up same numbers ... my point is the cream always rises .. perform

Absolutely. The issue here for the mid-major programs is that they normally get the kids who need more time to develop. With that being said, you bring these kids in, develop them, they get an education, and then your star players can transfer to a P5 as a graduate transfer and enter the league as a player from that school. Makes perfect sense for the player and is a great deal for them and the P5 school, just sucks for the mid-majors since they may not reap all the benefits of them developing these kids. It is what it is though.

Interesting, just saw this posted. Here is Jim Harbaugh’s idea to fix the transfer process

I was definitely one of those guys that anticipated him being drafted in the first 3 rounds. I still think he’ll sign with someone. His ball skills are awesome for the position. Had he had back to back all American seasons it would be a different story. Also if you’re kind of a character at a smaller school teams aren’t excited to draft you ie Jordan Huff. Huff cost himself a lot of money with his off field antics. Huff looked like the best running back in the MAC at times. He also outplayed San Diego States Rashad Penny in our last game, yet Penny went in the First Round.

Agree. I’m laughing at those who did think that.

Yeah, the coaching staff underutilized him, and not his nagging injuries. 01-wingedeagle

Funny Lurry out of all players says that. He had no other P5 offers coming out, so we were his only chance playing on that level to give him an opportunity where as I remember jj having some offers. As someone else said I think it’s more generational as I’m 30 and it’s normal for people my age to be at their 3rd job by now, but some of it has to do with surroundings and culture too. No different than a job. Make it a place where people want to stay and never leave.
