Ok. I've had time to sleep on it and listen to/read all the draft reviews and Browns' management interviews and I'm coming around more on the Mayfield pick. GM Dorsey had been scouting and studying Mayfield even before he was hired by Cleveland over 4 months ago. He's been leaning to pick Mayfield and came out convinced "he's the guy" after all the due diligence done before, during and after the combine. It wasn't it came down to Allen, Darnold or Mayfield a few days before the draft - Mayfield was their guy for some time. Fine. IMO the metrics (yes Mark are you listening) clearly show Mayfield as the top college QB coming out of the draft. He's played for 4 years and there is plenty of game film and stats to review for consistency. I don't believe the comparisons to Manziel are fair or accurate but obviously many in Browns nation and beyond still see it that way. To me, Mayfield is the "high risk/high reward" QB pick. Can his college game translate to the NFL? Will the Browns tailor their offense to match his skill set and put him in the best position to be successful? Darnold IMO was the "safer" pick and the Browns have blown too many high draft picks. Time will tell.
I still would've taken Chubb over Ward at #4. Ward was a need pick and the Browns felt he was the best corner in the draft. Apparently, they desired to trade down from #4 and still take Ward but weren't able to get a deal done. I think Chubb had a higher value/best available player at #4 but the Browns went with need. I admit we have zero cornerbacks that have any decent speed or strong man-to-man cover skills. However, IMO if you have an elite dee line then that takes pressure off your corners.
In terms of Round 1 overall, did anyone see the reaction of Josh Rosen after getting selected at #10? He looked like he was going to cry. I don't know about that dude. He's skinny as a bean pole and seems entitled/spoiled. Time will tell.
I thought Denver got a gift selecting Chubb at #5 to pair him opposite Von Miller. The Dolphins got great value and need from selecting Fitzpatick at #11.

I thought all the QBs in the draft his year were flawed, but I personally liked Mayfield best. There are always concerns about his size, but he was such a great passer to all parts of the field that I think he's a very high upside QB. He had some of that Manziel playmaking, but he was just as good at standing in the pocket and delivering strikes short, medium and long. Darnold had very high turnover numbers in college and his ability to read the field is something I question. I hate Allen as a pro prospect. This is the first qb the Browns have taken in a long time I think has a chance to be good to great NFL starter. Obviously, it's really hard to predict these things, but I don't blame them for the pick.
Bengals coming up in a few picks, I'm guessing they'll either go with OT Connor Williams or one of the safeties (Reid or Harrison) depending upon who is left. Might surprise with a TE (Goedert) or a CB (Jackson).

I like Logan Woodside about as much as Allen and Rudolph. I doubt any of those guys become nfl starters but Woodside could be a solid backup and theirs always the chance their is more.

Enquirer kinda clears this up a bit today. Seems Lewis taken a bit out of context and wasn’t speaking about pick at 77 rather just normal discussion about all positions.

We just need someone to fill AJ McCarron's spot. And by that, I simply mean a name that rabid fans call for to replace Andy Dalton when things go south. They don't actually have to perform - just need a jersey with a name on the back of it.
