Will start with Toledo

Rockets have gone from have no early signing commits to very promising 4 man class (that is really 6 when you add in 2 RS players).

Rockets signed
1) 6-5 combo guard Keshaun Saunders one of the top HS players in Canada. Big scorer, high energy guy, should play a lot as a frosh.

2) AJ Edu the top prospect in the Philippines national basketball program. Born and raised in Cyprus of Filipino and Nigerian lineage, via a year in England, he was a FIBA basketball without borders top 67 in the world competitor, and star of the recent All Asia 3 on 3 tournament (it's a thing). 6-10 kid, kinda skinny, lot of offensive game, will probably need a year or so to adapt and grow into D1 baskeball.

3) TJ Smith is 6-8 perimeter forward from one of those elite national basketball academies. Not a lot of production in high school, but athletic with shooting range and a lot of upside. Will probably be a rotation backup for a year, but if he keeps filling in and learns to defend and rebound consistently could be a really good stretch 4 type.

4) Toledo native Chris Darrington was a juco all-american last year and considered coming home but chose Tennessee over Nebraska, Memphis and Toledo. Was a backup this year for the SEC champs and loping ahead to his senior year with the possibility of never getting real D1 time decided to transfer home. Can score and handle but more of a 6-1 scoring guard. Will practice next year and play the year after, something that is uncommon everywhere in college basketball but Toledo who routinely signs high major practice 1/play 1 transfers (like Tre Fletcher and Steve Taylor) who take the rs year to improve their game and push their teammates in practice, then become all-MAC types during their final year.

5/6 Rockets also get eligible Duquense transfer Spencer Littleton who was a top recruit in Michigane 2 years ago and is a 6-4 scorer with some flash and flexibility. Similar size and skill set to Jaelon Sanford but with a different style to his play. Also add in undersized RS Frosh PF Logan Hill, a muscular 6-6 Ohio kid who isn't gonna put up big numbers but is one of those garbage player types who happens to have a lot of hops and is fun to watch hustle, rebound and dunk.

I know Buffalo has some great recruits and is still in the mix for a couple high potential guys. Ball St has some good transfers getting eligible and Ohio probably has some great recruit waiting to get hurt or transfer. Let's hear about your team.
UB is going after some JUCOs and transfers to replace the departures of Ikenna Smart and James Reese, but no news on a commit yet. Rivals just updated their top 150 for 208 and Jeenathan Williams jumped all the way up to # 83 (he was previously around 120-130). That makes him the third MAC recruit in the Rivals top 150 in the last ten years (the other two were CMU's Trey Ziegler and Akron's Zeke Marshall).

UB fans are hoping to land another forward/center in the class .
EMU has two recruits and one known open scholarship.

The scholarships come from: Tim Bond (graduated), Nobles (grad transfer to Oakland) and Terry Harris (grad transfer to ?).

We signed a PG and C both with D-I experience. https://twitter.com/EMUHoops/status/984543619930578950
From what I've seen on the internets lately it looks like CMU has added a pretty solid 5th year transfer who originally signed w Tennessee but went to Xavier and later Vandy. Should give CMU a capable defender and athlete to fill in their guard rotation. Also added another small forward type from juco. not huge numbers but his background suggests he could contribute a bit.

NIU had a big signing getting Austin Richie who WMU and a lot of mid majors were after. Richie is a muscular small forward who can shoot and could be a real good MAC player. Big recruit considering the state of NIU's program without a lot of depth and some stagnation in their recruiting.

OU got a fairly coveted shooting guard juco named cowart who should fit in well w kirk and darts as he can shoot but also run and handle. haven't seen any game breaker type recruits lately though, but maybe OU just needs to stay healthy to turn the corner a bit.

Ball St got a solid grad transfer from a lousy ow major named Nehls. good shooter and team leader who should add depth to their backcourt rotation that lost some guys to graduation and transfer. They already had a couple SEC transfers on the roster eligible next year so their new guys will be vets not frosh for the most part.

Akron has a ton of transfers coming in and a couple going out. 3 D1 and 4 jucos. None of the jucos are huge recruits but none seems like reaches as all had some other decent offers. Groce, who I think is kinda off his rocker, is certainly juggling a lot of recruiting in his short Akron tenure trying to find a good core. got no idea if it will come together but there's plenty of decent to pretty good players to work with. Key to me would be if Sayles, the big rising soph, comes back better and can be a solid 25-30 minute guy inside.

Miami already signed 2 pgs to go with the 2 already on the roster (as well as sibande who isn't a true pg but has the ball in his hands a lot). got a recent grad transfer from Cal Poly who is a decent filler in the middle for 15-20 minutes a game. nothing special but solidly built veteran who can contribute. interestedly, owens first rushed class was higher rated than this one he had a whole year to put together.

Buffalo added a decent 6-8 athletic juco but didm;t sign either of the higher rated guys they were after. already got 2 stud freshman recruits coming in. on a related note that staff stays busy. offered 16 2019 players in the last week.

On Miami - Owen's first class was aided a bit by landing a couple guys he had recruited while at Purdue. On the 2 guards being added - while both shoot excellent from 3, the one is a 6'1" sharp shooter who is not considered a pure PG. He (last name White I think?) will probably play more 2G. Also, Ringo is a SR this coming season.
Just read buffalo center ikenna smart is going a grad transfer to wake Forest, didn't see that coming
Looks like Western got their other main late recruiting target in a Canadian kid named Emilian who had a lot of mid major offers. Good to see them overcome some key player losses by signing a couple of ready to contribute mid sized guys.
Akron has completed their signings. No direct-from-high-school recruits. Six new players joining the program. https://bit.ly/2GdXNKs
Yeah, Groce is definitely going the transfer route. Makes it harder to score that really talented late developing player but gets you guys ready to contribute much more quickly. Akron looks like they will be relevant again next season but not sure if I see enough impact guys to challenge the top of the league.

With these new guys, a couple good returning players, plus the players who redshirted last year after transferring, I would expect the Zips to be top 3.
i don't quite see it. they will have a much deeper roster, but i still don't see an all-mac player unless jimond ivey is a lot more consistent or parrish keeps improving. who is your playmaker with the ball in his hands? who is you go to guy on the blocks? certainly, will have more defensive parts to work with, but college hoops is largely a perimeter ball handling and 3 point shooting game. akron added more of those types of players but are they real good ones?
Fact check.......Eric Parrish will not be on Akron's roster next season. He is transferring out per his tweet on 4/12/2018. As of today he has not been added to another team's roster.

I don't know what thread to put this in and I didn't want to start a new one for it but I saw Adonis de la Rosa is transferring from Kent State.

I think he only had one year left but that's a tough loss for them this year.

About De La Rosa..."De La Rosa was injured in the closing minutes of Kent State’s season-ending loss to Buffalo in the semifinals of the 2018 Mid-American Conference Tournament, and had to be helped off the floor. He suffered a torn ACL and underwent successful knee surgery in March" - it will be hard to replace De La Rosa, but he probably won't be playing much anywhere next season. ACLs take about a year to recover. I'm glad he got his degree before he left.
WMU added 4 talents and missing out one more.

Transfer loss of Reggie Jones will hurt due to talent. But on the floor he played with velcro hands not making those around him better. The other 2 transfers are negligible losses talent wise. A walk on and Randall who was a decent shooter but at D1 wasn’t skilled or athletic enough to impact.

This class reps a significant shift. All spring signees. None in the fall (not settling). A Juco with skills to impact in combo F Wilkens out of Barton CC by way of Chicago Farragut HS. He’ll start at the 3. 2 Canadians. Boyer a PG with a high IQ who strives to make those around him better. He’ll initially provide depth. Emillien is another combo F who is longer than Wilkens. Will see the floor for heavy minutes playing the 3 and 4. Particulary when WMU’s only center, Seth Dugan sits and WMU goes small ball. He will start his 2nd year. Martin is a combo guard out of Lanier HS
near Atlanta, Ga. Top 10 large class player who is highly athletic and a mix of skills. His ability to defend with length will open the door for minutes. The key here is his ability to not turn it over and make good on the few opportunities to score. Plays similarly to returning senior Josh Davis but with better handles. Still a freshman but with the graduation loss of Wilder I can imagine his athleticism may allow him to see the floor.

Forgot about that injury. Tough break for him. He was hard to match up against.

i don't see fall signings as "settling" that's when most good mid majors lock up a couple key recruits. maybe, that was a problem at western. wilkins is a gonna be a good MAC player. not sure if it will be next season, but before he's done he'll play well if he stays healthy. he had options. emilien isn't as highly recruited but is a kid you can be intrigued by, especially with the way the game now leans toward forwards who can step out and make jump shots and handle the ball. both of the other kids were lightly recruited but i haven't seen them play. maybe, western found some underrated talent. hawkins and that staff know the game so i look forward to seeing these kids play.

UT just got a 2019 commit from west bloomfield guard donavan moore who had offers from most of the mid majors in the region. athletic guard who scores a lot around the rim at the hs level.

Settling meant by taking plan B or C in fall when A goes elsewhere. Keep your powder dry as more and more in the spring are those who are free agents, or late bloomers.
Eastern Michigan finished off its 2018 class with:

Daivon Stephens
Penn Hills (Pittsburgh PA)
6-6, senior, guard/forward
Stephens provided an all-around impact for WPIAL Class 6A champion Penn Hills (24-4). The versatile forward averaged 17.9 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.3 blocks for the Indians, who won their first title since 2003. Stephens had a double-double in the WPIAL finals with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
