Just some random blog dude, but a helluva lot better than that ESPN FPI mess.

17. UCF

23. Memphis

14. Boise State

Should be a 3-way fight for the NY6 slot. And maybe the playoffs if somebody goes unbeaten again, and things fall just right.
The West runs through Houston, Memphis lost too much on offense.

Good pub, nonetheless.

If we can field an offense of our own, your post is spot on. Here's hoping Briles can get the offense jump started 04-cheers

You are gonna be wrong. We lost the QB and our starting 2 WRs. Genard Avery at LB. But hardly anybody else on either side of the ball.

We have a transfer QB from AZ State who knows Norvell's offense, and was a high-rated 4-star out of HS.

Norvell's offense is designed to operate in a way that doesn't require a hot shot QB, just a game manager. We have been lucky with the last two, but you don't get Paxton Lynch and Riley Ferguson every year. However, we won't need one of them to be efficient on offense.

We don't have an Anthony Miller at WR, but we can make up for it in the number of quality WRs and backups.

We have an unbelievable corps of RBs, including our 2 best from last year, Henderson and Taylor.

We have maybe the two best TEs in the AAC, Magnifico and Dykes.

We have an O line that will give anybody in the league a run for its money.

We have a defense that will look and play nothing like we have the past few seasons. Should be a strength this season. Our biggest question mark is whether we can develop an efficient pass rush.

Going in, we will be ranked higher than Houston in most polls, IMO. Certainly not a situation where the "West runs through Houston."

Nuh uh.
tl;dr homer nonsense

Just like Kyle Allen was going to be our savior because he was a 5-star. It doesn’t work that way.

Memphis lost a stud QB and is replacing him with a complete and utter question mark. Houston has D’Eriq King. Advantage: Houston

Homer nonsense, huh? I gave a breakdown of most of our team. All you said was Memphis lost a lot on offense. Yeah, 4 starters. Almost nothing else out of the two deep.

Great comparison and analysis.

Last time we checked, Houston had yet to have any semblance of an offense.

I never said Memphis would blow out Houston, or even win the division.

What I said was your idea that the "West goes through Houston" has some question marks, since UH has to prove it has an offense, and ours might be a lot better than most people suspect. And our D will be improved.

P.S. You said the same thing about Memphis two years ago, when Ferguson replaced Paxton Lynch.
I was going to say that UH should be the favorite in the west, but on the road at Navy, SMU, and Memphis has changed my mind.
We lost a lot on offense. I think it's safe to say the west goes through Houston this year.
Will be one of Houston or Memphis out West.

I just don't buy that. Read the details in Post #4. I think it will be a horse race, definitely not a heavy favorite, either way, which the phrase "goes through XXX" implies.

Exactly. Road goes through both. Not just one. And Navy will always be tough, and SMU will be improved. I have no feel for Tulsa or Tulane.

Will SMU be improved? They lost almost all of their production at WR. They have Proche returning, but Sutton and Quinn are big losses.

And UH is going to bring in some big time grad transfers. This year should be fun.
The offense Briles brought to Houston should keep all defensive coordinators up at night.

To our opponents;
Go purchase your tickets early boys and girls, Houston is bringing fireworks.
I'm not sure why we're dismissing Navy so easily in the West. In three years with divisions, three teams have won the west. Navy has finished t-1st (lost tie-breaker), 1st, and t-3rd.

No one is dismissing Navy, it is just no one is going to talk sack about them.

Navy returns two 1,000 yard rushers.

And quite literally [pushes taped together glasses up bridge of nose], the road to West championship goes through Annapolis because both of y'all come to NMCMS.

Yeah, I forgot about that. I retract that part about SMU, lol.

Who is dismissing Navy? Read Post #11.

Yeah, I'll buy that, too. I also posted that Navy will be tough, as always. But as of now, I don't think Navy will win the division.
West is irrelevant. 2018 champ is in the East.
