Memphis is setting up a visit with a grad transfer from UTC

@JohnMartin929
Nat Dixon, 6-4 guard graduate transfer from Chattanooga who averaged 13.8 ppg last season, told me just now he's working on setting up a visit to Memphis.
Nice post, Pesik. Thanks.

Dude shoots 39.5% from 3.

And Crabtree shot 47% and 45% from 3, his last 2 seasons.

Aren't you guys already going to have a bunch of Seniors next year?

Not sure a grad transfer makes all that much sense.
UCF's A.J. Davis will be playing in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament in April.

I tried to see if any other AAC players are in the tournament but could not find anything. However, if I find any info I will post it here...

We lack much of any shooting on the current roster
UConn commit Emmit Matthews Jr. has reportedly decommitted.

https://247sports.com/Player/Emmitt-Matthews-Jr-94640

He was an AAU teammate of WSU signee Erik Stevenson.
Geno Artison RS Jr. has decided to transfer from Tulsa. No destination decided yet.

He was basicallly a 6'9" shooting guard who came in off the bench.

Yep. But we have probably 6 slots to fill, and only one so far (Lomax). Our big recruiting year should be 2019, so a grad transfer makes sense to clear it out for 2019, yet take advantage of the need to fill spots for 2018.

In 2019, we will likely get James Wiseman, Malcolm Dandridge and Chandler Lawson, all starters for Penny at East. Plus a few more on the line.

Good point. I don't think we had a single 3 point shooter much over 33% this season.

Edit: Thornton was 37.7%, but on only 20 of 53 attempts.

Davenport was 35.5% Nobody else was over 33.3%.
Houston is going after OU transfer Kam McGusty. Would be a very good pickup for the Coogs.

Why wouldn’t Chandler Lawson go to Kansas and play with his brother?

Conner will also be in the 3 pt contest. Conner is actually a great selection for 3 on 3. Gives him extra space. He's pretty damn good in 1 on 1 non-pressure situations where he's just having fun.

The Lawson thing is real weird. If anyone other than Tubby had been Memphis' coach, they'd probably all still be in Memphis. Lawson family is still pretty close with Penny as well.
btw this thread is fantastic. Easy way to check in on everyone's offseason with transfers/recruiting/etc.

Because he would rather stay home with his parents and play for his hometown school. Dad Lawson and Penny are extremely tight. Penny wanted to put Dad on staff in some capacity, but admin probably nixed it.

And a rumor out there Dedric and KJ thought about coming back.

And never say never, but Penny seems to think Chandler and Jonathan will both play for him.
Nickleberry transferring from Memphis
Also, since the Penny hire, over $1M in new ticket sales.

yep and just got his release

Corey Evans
@coreyevans_10
Rivals150 wing Emmitt Matthews has decommitted and received his release from UConn, per source. Shot making wing with athleticism that should see his fair share of suitors come in
rhode island has a pretty good recruiting class including a espn 100 center...all have publicly stated that they want to stay at rhode island..

seems that hurly wasnt the main recruiter at rhode island david cox is, the associate head coach

it seems that all of rhode islands recruit will stay on the assumption that he is named head coach.......if not expect cox to come to uconn and for uconn to take many rhode islands commits
