Interesting read...my take is that the writer is spot on. Hanner looks better since some of the "lipstick" was applied but it is out dated. 6500 seats sounds like a lot but when you talk about all of the other uses a new arena would have that sounds like a good size to me.
It's not just about basketball, it's about whether or not the school has a convocation center that's commensurate with it's enrollment. It doesn't.

Frankly, it's embarrassing when Statesboro High School has to give out tickets for graduation and last year decided to hold their graduation ceremony outdoors on a hot day because of how inadequate Hanner Field House is.

The place was built in the sixties when the enrollment was a few thousand. Now it's almost 30k on both campuses and the town is bigger as well.

BTW: I am glad State has their plans for their arena in place because the past has shown that's the best impetus there is to get the ball rolling on this stuff.
We need a new arena. No question. Hanner is so small that the local high schools can no longer use it for graduation ceremonies like they have in the past. I think even 6.5k might be a little on the small side. Basketball would be the primary use yes, but it'll be used for several other things that might outdraw 6.5k like the article mentions with speakers, concerts, and I know we need a large arena for SOAR events and Open house weekends because Hanner is a huge obstacle for planning around those.

When the crowd is smaller, there are things you can do like smart lighting and use of panels to cover up empty section and make the arena feel smaller and more condensed when we need it to.

Right now, there is a solid plan that is moving forward to build a new arena as part of the South Campus expansion. The land is currently being cleared and the roads are being laid out and paved for the expansion as I type this.
We're getting one now y'all want one
A facilities arm race will only benefit the conference.

Our plans for a new arena have been in the works since at least 2016. The site is already picked and the land is set to be cleared soon.
The link in the F5 article goes to an article about Dingus McGees. I think the article that was meant to be referenced is a year old.

Check the date for the article.

Someone bumped up a thread from February of last year on GSUFans and the OP in that thread has a link to the same article as the link in this F5 article. I am assuming Nick saw it and assumed it was something new and forgot to check dates.

Oh you mean the Statesboro herald article. Yeah, the F5 article is more of an opinion piece or a blog post. I don't think Nick was trying to relay current information or anything. Most of the stuff in the F5 article was already known from the SH article he cited.
