I'm curious to know where the majority of the people here think we should be, conference wise. There are basketball people, football people, and a bit of both. So, where do you want ODU to be?
I didn't make the results public, just in case you don't want to get berated. I voted A10 basketball, football independent.
I voted A10 basketball, CAA football. I could live with realignment if it included JMU and Liberty and we could get at least 2 more CAA schools to go FBS, preferably W&M and Richmond. There are no Sunbelt schools I am interested in being in a conference with except maybe App State. If the point is a regional conference, they are the only one in our region. Technically they aren't even in our region since we are in the Washington region so our games with them won't get interest from CSN or MASN, but at least it is drivable so I'll count it. I could live with indy football as well, but I'd rather have the regional rivals.

Screw the CAA, im not going back to play Stony Brook.
A10 basketball and baseball. Fbs independent football. Schedule all away games within 4 hours driving distance.

Sports should serve to improve school image and prestige. We do that by keeping company with more elite schools and promoting the brand locally. We should not be known as the Virginia school which plays half its games in Texas against third rate schools.

Furthermore the A10 is more renowned academically. ODU is far ahead of the likes of WKU, Marshal and LA Tech to name a few and should not be associated with them at all.
The one CAA voter needs to get out of the past. Even if we went back to CAA it would never be like before since other schools (VCU) have left.
I see Lil' Woody got his staff to vote. Poll has been up for 2 hours and in the last 5 minutes, the Kumbaya CUSA choice went from 0 votes to 9 votes.

You would be a natural here https://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/
There's no going back and I think Independence would be disastrous for the FB program. We should be trying to get to the AAC but also working with similar schools in CUSA East and the SB for a plan B. I chose realignment on this poll.
So, in my opinion 3 and 4 are complete non starters. Not happening. You aren't going to take a loss and move back down, anger the fan base, and risk losing season tickets. (im not the only one that has lost interest in FCS football and would not attend those games).

Option 1 is my favorite. I see a decent case for option 2, but I do think Indy football is purgatory. Now you are scrambling for games and we may have to take some that simply make no sense. Maybe it can be done.

Not a real fan of option 5. Those teams interest me less than CUSA teams.
There might be enough FBS independents where we would just agree to put each other on the schedule each year. It's a dream, but I think it could work. I don't think ODU being in CUSA in particular is the reason we are able to schedule ACC opponents at home.

The poll is a little rigged, I don't think intentionally, but the basketball first section consists of a number of options while the football first section really only has one option. The numbers are spread out for those who want to put basketball first.

What other option do you envision for the football first vote besides staying where we are or full realignment? I honestly couldn't think of anything else.

FWIW I see 2 options for each football and basketball focused fans.

If we aren't an FBS independent we need an FBS football only conference.

You wouldn't call a sun belt realignment putting football first? Staying the path is also football first. That's 2 options at least and one could make the argument that going independent is football first as well.

This. CUSA is a detriment to the ODU brand. That's the opposite of what a conference should be. Independence is better than getting dragged down by UTEP.

True. The other purpose of a football conference is a kind of collective negotiation of media deals.

That's apparently not possible per NCAA rules.
