#1 seed MTSU loses in their first game of the CUSA tournament by #9 S Miss. Could they be off to the NIT? Terrible loss for them.

Their RPI will be in the 30s. Pretty sure they still make it.

I would think that they would take a spot for one of the P5 "bubble" type teams.
It ain’t baseball. One bad outing and you’re done — as we all painfully know. As for MTSU, the few minutes I watched as they were rolling, they were shooting the lights out. At some point, that can’t continue.
Are they really going to miss the tournament with an RPI at 34? If so that is really unbelievable. Most brackets have them out

If MTSU misses the tournament, then Bartow was truly right that the 3 games is all that matters.
They were right around the cut line going into yesterday. Nevada losing last night probably did the Blue Raiders in. If St. Joseph's beat Rhode Island today, it could get REALLY messy.

If they had beaten USC, Auburn, or Miami, I think they'd be in. It's that close.
They're 12-1 on the road, which is amazing. Yet losing to those Golden Eagles is really bad. Close call....
And it shows how the committee really, really wants power 5 schools and want to keep mid majors out if they can.
Jerry Palm was on some radio talk show just moments ago. Said they won't get in.
I think they deserve to go but probably won't. Especially when their best OOC win is Murray State.
Out

They go from being ranked about a week ago to missing the tournament

Three team$ that de$erved to be in the tourney before the 34th placed team in the Big 10:

Vermont
MTSU
ETSU

All about the money folk$.
Whoever it was that was quoting that website each week saying that we had "x percent chance" of being an at large- that website has no validity at all. If MTSU couldn't get in, we had a zero percent chance even if we had beat Xavier and not lost those last 3 home games. Frustrating.
These regions will require major US Geography textbooks and USA maps radical revisions on Monday morning.

As for the field, nothing has changed relatively with relation to the usual and customary line up of teams of the past 50 years. In a rapidly changing culture, that’s a good dissertation topic in sports management.

Notice UNCG got shipped to potato country, plus their 7.5 seconds of TV fame.

St Mary's got snubbed so bad. St Mary's is a top team. The tourney makers are absolute retards.

MTSU was the only one of those teams that was even close to being worthy of an at-large bid by resume, and they weren't all that close at the end because of San Diego State and Nevada stealing bids from the bubble.

"We won a bunch of games" does not directly equate to being worthy of a place in the tournament. The FCS committee gives seeds to teams like Jacksonville State and Sam Houston State on that rationale when they're really not that good and lose in embarrassing ways. The basketball committee is by no means perfect, and leaving out USC for Syracuse and Arizona State is an utter abomination, but they get a lot more right than they get credit for. Strength of schedule matters. Who you beat during the season matters. The way you win those games matters to some degree. If I have 23 pennies and the other guy has 23 nickels, guess who has more money?

All of those teams could get in if they were good enough to win their conference tournaments. They weren't, so they didn't.

Because they have combined for zero wins against the top 8 conferences?
Things seem to be getting harder and harder to for mid-majors to get an at-large. Not sure if anyone here remembers but MTSU got an at-large in 2013 as a Sun Belt member. Looking at their resume that season it wasn't much better than this year other than going 19-1 in their conference.
