I remember going to seagate for the tournament back in the day. Such a great atmosphere.
I am not a Cleveland guy but it’s hard to argue being in Cleveland

And I will also say if Toledo is a first round loser in the woman’s draw playing in Toledo the crowd will be sparse and likely similar to the Q

And arguing that it would be a week long focus on local media is hard to imagine when the daily local has a hard time putting Toledo games above OSU it UM

I loved going to some of those games at Seagate too but the place didn’t have locker rooms for goodness sake. Huntington would be better but not a lot

I say put it in the home gym of the top seed and give the top seed the advantage they earned in regular season

It was also at Savage (Centennial Hall) for a few years as well. Started out at Crisler Arena if I recall correctly.

So I looked it up before posting. Was at Crisler Arena for first three years, then the championship was at Anderson Arena in 1983??? What were they smoking? Was it because BG made it to the finals?

After that it alternated between Rockford, Illinois and Centennial for 4 years, then it was at Centennial for the next 3 years, then Cobo Hall for the next 3 years after that, then Columbus (Batelle Hall??) for 2 years - before going to the Seagate Center for 4 years and then on to Gund/Quicken Loans since 2000.

So it was in Toledo for a total of 9 years, of which Toledo made the finals 1 time - and lost to EMU by a score of 77-63. In the 38 years of the tourney, Toledo has been in the finals 5 times - and won once. (Their was no tourney in 1979). So out of 76 finalists, we have made it 5 times.

BG has never won it, and has been in the finals 3 times (lost to Toledo in the inaugural tournament up at Crisler) 85-70. They have made the finals 1 time in the last 34 years. Must be a Northwest Ohio issue.

Most championships - Ball State with 7, Kent State and Ohio with 6.

Miami and EMU with 4 each. Could be our next 2 opponents - or it could just be Miami if we play in the post season like the football team did....
The Seagate Centre was a great atmosphere, but it definitely had drawbacks (the lack of locker rooms being the obvious one). Things would be much different now with the Huntington Center, which I think would be an excellent place to host the event.

I agree that Toledo would be a more centrally located site. But the Huntington Center and the downtown hotels, being able to host 8 different teams, can't compare to what Cleveland does for the MAC championship. Just saw on twitter, Toledo was in a holding area waiting to take the floor for some shooting and a brief practice. This holding area had a half court and basket to walk thru some things before they took the floor. I'm sure the Q also has 4 different locker rooms, beside the Cavs and the Monsters, for the teams. So i'm guessing the Huntington Center would have a tough time stacking up to what the Q has to offer.
Most hotels in Cleveland are close enough that the teams can stay and walk to the arena for their games.
Btw, if you enjoy basketball, I highly encourage anyone to make a weekend out of it sometime and go to Cleveland for the tournament and stay Thursday through Saturday. It's worth it!!

Got the all included tix a couple times and saw almost every game M and F. Kind of entertaining to watch games where I had no rooting interest.
Keep it in Cleveland for both women and men. Makes it easier for us diehards to attend both teams. Plus Cleveland is a fun city with tons to do and plenty of places to eat. My only wish is that the Q or Cavaliers would market the tournament better.
I remember when they used to sell upper level seats for boxes of Kraft MAC and cheese. That was a cool idea and I recall it lead to some nice crowds
As an EMU fan I wouldn't mind if the tournament home rotated between Toledo and EMU or move from the Q to LCA.

Little Caesar's Arena would be nice. If the FB MACC is staying at Ford Field, do the
BB Tourney in the Motor City.
How can I listen to UT Basketball on the radio?

Good luck!

If you are able to pull Toledo Radio stations, 1370 am covers the toledo game. and If you have the internet ESPN3 will cover the game.

I get decent 1370 reception in Ypsilanti if that’s where you are. Great to have a new big time Rocket fan!
I suggested this some years ago, why not have a power 5 school play UT at the Huntington Center for 1 game per season. If not the mens team, how about the women playing a power 5 school at the Huntington. Miller could showcase UT on ESPN I or II, hope for a crowd of 7500 plus. Maybe only then this could open discussion of having the MAC women's tourney to play here. Need more hotels/restaurants downtown!

OSU vs UT would be a nice match up.

Thanks....I am an EMU alumnus living in AA. I am a fan of the Rockets when they aren't playing EMU!

Hope Fletcher is able to go tomorrow.
