He could definitely get drafted, worst case scenario he goes to Europe and comes back to the NBA when he's ready. It makes zero sense for him to sit out a year.

Three star that averaged 15 and 4, plus a 3:1 TO ratio and is a 95% FT shooter.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it lists him being a 78% FT shooter... 95 % would be absurd... I still think he could bring some much needed depth to the roster though.

I didn't say we had a real shot at Yurtseven. I just said he would be a great get for us. For a number of reasons.

If we have a roster of guards in the 160-185 lb range, there is no way we can defend man to man. Gary is under 170 lbs, Brown 160 lbs, Taylor 160 lbs., Toews 185 lbs. and add this guy at 165 lbs. Bigger guards drive at will against us already, and they are drawing fouls or getting to the rim at ease. If we don't focus on getting some bigger guards I don't see how we become a team that can defend unless we play zone.

I think you're putting to much emphasize in weight. Weight really only matters when someone posts you up. UNCWs guards struggled staying in front of people. While size can help in regards to that, I'm not quite understanding your weight argument.
I get it that they need to be stronger and that comes with added muscle/weight and the younger kids will get stronger. As far as defending the dribble drive goes it is more about quickness and length than brute strength. We had bigger ,stronger guards with Keatts but they couldn't check a hat and were about as soft as cotton. The bigs need some bulk in most cases to hold the spot when rebounding and defending the low block. I like longer, quicker players on the wing and if comes with thick guys it is a plus if you have bulk but it is surely not a must. Desire to defend and pride in stops is way more important along with a set of defensive skills.

I agree... It makes sense, like I said size helps. But as you stated The desire to defend and having pride in stops is the most important factor. Avery Bradly, arguably the NBA's best on-ball defender is 180 pounds. That's 5 less than Toews is as a senior in high school. Weight and Strength are going to matter at any athletic aspect of a sport, but there is a skill in playing defense especially on the wings or at the guard position, that matter more than your strength.
Size and weight don't mean anything unless you are guarding bulkier guys who can go through a defender. And with today's call to limit contact to almost nothing, bigger guards will have the advantage all day long.

We'll see, because based on who we have and who we're recruiting, we're going to have a bunch of 165 -185 lb. guards under 6'3".

Take a look at CofC.

Chealy - 6'4" 190 lbs.
Riller - 6'3" 195 lbs
Cam Johnson - 6'4" 200 lbs
Pointer - 6'0" 220 lbs.

And their young guys and redshirts all have the same size with a few exceptions. Sorry folks, i've played a lot of ball in my life, and those 190 - 220 lb. guards will eat up some 160- 185 lb. guards on the boards, on the blocks, on defense and driving. Not to mention the ability to drive the ball and finish at the rim. Heck, Cacok had a hard time posting up the fire hydrant guy they put on him.

Cacok had 20 pts 13 rbs and 29 pts 17 rbs against CofC this year. But Ok...

I was thinking of the tournament game we lost, meant NU. They put a shorter, stockier guy on him and he ended up shooting 6-13 from the field.

Grant Riller as a freshman was listed at 178 lbs. He put on 17 lbs while in college.

Also McGrath is recruiting taller guards.
1. Estime- 6’5
2. Gary- 6’4
3. Simms- 6’6
4. Toews- 6’3 ( Past PGs Talley and Ingram were 6’0-6’1 range)

Definitely moving in the right direction with some bigger guards.

it makes no difference what a guy weighs if he has no heart for defense and that is what UNCW has had for the last 4 years. Give these guys a year in the weight room and lest see if they guard somebody. Pretty sure they can't do any worse than the teams before them. They have the length which is where it needs to start and add from there. I am not a fan of short ,stocky players. COC is where you want to get if you are UNCW. You are the only one around that player the game and your thinking on this is just wrong. I don't see many 6-0,200 lb guys that I want on my team unless I am playing football.

Only one was 6'0" 200 lbs, the others were 6'3"and 6'4".

Dude,I am talking for the most part it just does not happen. We all want bigger, strong but how about UNCW gets some players that play on both ends of the court? I love offense but at this level defense is the way to maintain success and it has just not been there for a while. I am not a fan of trying to outshoot the other team as a style of play. We shall see what the coach does with his program if people will let have some time to build it and not start whining like little kids on the playground in year 1 and 2.
Ryan Daly is transferring from Delaware. That’s really big news in the CAA.

Whoa. That’s huge. That sets Delaware back a few years.

Hate to see it, but not a surprise. Kid can play, and he is looking at 2 more years of futility at Delaware. Wondering what level of interest he'll get?

Agreed, I would think he could likely fit in a middle of the pack ACC lineup, and start for a lot of P5 programs. Kid can play and will be a big loss for the CAA and Delaware.

Maybe we can recruit him? 03-lmfao But on a serious note, he would definitely be able to play at a P5 level with good talent around him. Hate to see that happen to Delaware, but kind of reminds me of what CJ Bryce did last year. Both have potential to play at a P5 level.
