If they do a national show, give me Rome.

I recall that WJOX at one time had Rome's show on in a slot ("Rome is Burning"?). He would be one of the "others" who abound if brought back.

...rack em'... 04-rock ...I remember not long after Saban was hired in GumpVegas, Rome went off on Saban's "never leaving Miami" quotes... and it was maybe a week or so after that, JOX, or whichever station who had Rome on at the time, pulled the plug on him, and replaced him with some local (i.e. Bammer-centric) crap show... 03-pissed
Perhaps the Saban worshiping show's cancellation was fallout from WJOX losing all Bama sports team and coach's call in / interview coverage (according to today's BBJ) which is being shifted to other B'ham stations.

Or vice versa...punishing WJOX for daring to remove an altar to the Great Drunken Bear.
The Bama broadcasts got pulled, no matter how hard they fellated Saban while cupping him. That made me laugh aloud.

Maybe I'll be able to listen to JOX without throwing up in my mouth a little now... but I doubt it changes much.

What will be the fate of WJOX if Finebaum moves away as well? He is after all, as much a Saban admirer as any other on that station.
Finebaum isn't tied to Jox, Jox just chose to pick up his syndication.

He was a regular weekday show on WJOX before he moved to North Carolina and became a national show.He constantly belittled Auburn while worshipping Bama. His most annoying callers followed him to NC.

I'm not sure what y'all are expecting to happen. Nick Saban is clearly one of the best college football coaches of all time. Are y'all expecting a radio station in the state where he coaches not to talk about him? That seems ridiculous.

I listened to the Opening Drive on my way to work, and I listen to the Roundtable on my way to work now, and honestly I'd say the Roundtable talks about Alabama sports more than Opening Drive did. That's mostly because the Opening Drive guys weren't usually talking about sports at all. I think that's most likely why the show failed.
We expect a sports show to talk about sports. If you want to exclusively talk about the Gumps fine. Just label it as such. I don't have to listen. I don't have any conflicted allegiances so that station has zero appeal to me.
Yep, & there is the problem. For a supposed sports station it doesn't really talk about a lot of different sports or even different universities.
I think the Roundtable does a great job. 3 Man Front is pretty good too. They both are giving UAB more coverage compared to the OD. It does help having the stadium news though.

The Opening Drive wasn't exclusively about Alabama. Like I said, they hardly talked about sports at all. Maybe it was just the time when I was listening, but I hardly ever heard anything about Alabama. Half of the calls would be people complaining they weren't talking about Alabama enough.

It's a better show for sure, but if the problem with the Opening Drive is they talked about Alabama too much then those folks are still going to have that same problem with the new show because the new show actually consistently discusses sports topics. I'm not sure what folks were wanting, but Opening Drive had Bill Clark on the radio every week during my commute, and Mark Ingram was on there a few times as well. In contrast, I never heard live interviews with Saban or Malzahn, although I'm sure they had to have had some at some point. Of course, the call-ins were predominately Alabama and Auburn fans, but that's not going to change no matter who is running a sports talk show around here.

Perhaps live interviews with Saban and Malzahn ran into conflicting contract stipulations about talking outside their regular scheduled talk shows which are part of their income. Clark and Ingram may not have this kind of conflict. They therefore may be able to talk more freely on more shows.
Roll Tide fat kid.

Roll Tide. I have no issues supporting multiple Universities. I'm not sure why you think that's supposed to mean something to this discussion. You're clearly wrong here, and if you were capable of taking a step back and thinking about how ridiculous your statement sounds then you would see that. If they had been as Alabama-centric as you claim, they would likely still be on the air.

Opening Drive wasn't cancelled because they talked about Alabama too much. It was cancelled because they didn't talk about sports enough at all.
Here's a thought: Support UAB on this board, & then support another program on their board.

Revolutionary thinking. Could change the Internet as we know it.
