Right now the ODU women's basketball team is in a 4 way tie for 7th place in Con USA. The two remaining games on our schedule are against teams with better records than ours, and on the road. Let's take a look at the standings in Con USA

1. WKU 12-2
2. UAB 11-3
3. Rice 9-5
4. La Tech 9-6
4. Middle Tennessee St 9-6
6. Charlotte 8-6
7. North Texas 6-8
7. Southern Miss 6-8
7. FAU 6-8
7. ODU 6-8
11. UtSA 6-9
12. UTEP 5-9
13. FIU 4-10
14. Marshall 3-12.

Okay. Marshall is not going to the Con USA tournament. Right now FIU is on the outside looking in. They have two road games in UTEP and Southern Miss. Even if ODU should lose both games this week, it would be very hard for FIU to win those two games on the road. So I think ODU will go to go the tournament. However if ODU wins one of two, they are an automatic lock for the tournament. If FIU loses one game, ODU goes to the Con USA tourney.

The Thursday the women's travel to the closest rival that we have. The Charlotte 49ers. Anyone who goes to support the team, just be careful. There might be more traffic than normal due to the CIAA tournament that is also being hosted by the city of Charlotte.

The 49ers schedule since they won 63-60 over ODU.

49ers Starting Five
#04 Laia Raventos 5'7" G Jr 14.4 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 5.7 apg, 2.9 spg, 44.6 FG%, 41.4 3P%, 80.5 FT%, 33.3 mpg

Four starters that average double digits, and that is why they are a difficult team to play. They balance each other With 6'4" Jamison-Myers down load, this allows Raventos to shot inside and out. Ransom is a dangerous 3 point shooter and Wilson will be on the All Freshman team at end of the season.

Okay. When it comes to this message I generally stick to the women's basketball section. I understand the talk about joining the A-10 and it makes a lot of sense. But the one thing you don't read about much is who is in charge of women's basketball in the A-10. That would be Associate Commissioner Wendy Larry. Yes, that Wendy Larry. Wouldn't that be interesting? One of the things that she oversees is the officials, which includes assignments. Any chance she would send us the worst officials in the A-10 because she might still hold a grudge against ODU? Their is no way the men's team would join the A-10 without the women's team joining as well. It would just add another interesting layer to talk about....

I thought Wendy retired from that job too

That's correct. She retired from the A10 job in 2014 to take care of her elderly mother. But another name we should all be familiar with works for the A10, Debbie White. She's their executive director of communications.
Your right. Sorry. Debbie White would be fun for ODU.

In an extremely disappointing game to watch, ODU loses 51-43. It's the kind of game you kind of want to burn the tape as ODU missed a ton of lay-ups. Oddly enough, over half of our points were in the paint (28) but that number should have been much higher.

The good news is that FIU lost 86-70 to UTEP. Which means that the ODU women's basketball team will go to the ConUSA tournament. That puts a lot less pressure on Saturday's road game against Middle Tenn St.

There is certainly hope for the future though. And I can live with that.
To be honest. I would not have been upset to not make the tourney. The sooner the staff gets on the road the sooner we can fill the last few spots.
Sounds like they've already done a ton of good recruiting, not that you ever know in WBB
