great!
maybe the NCAA will make them take down their Final Four banner... and that "We're Number 6!!!" silly banner.

Good Work 78.
Interesting.

Though as much as I hate VCU, it would suck if Rhodes and the current players would have to suffer any for this...

...except for the fact that it is VCU.

I do agree to some extent, but the school should pay for it. (and LSU needs to) Its not like you hire Wade and think he's clean. You know him.
Looking at that photo makes me miss the way each individual NCAA banner hanging is so much more impressive than the cheap vinyl with all the years on one banner. We used to have that. I really wish we would go back to that. I'm sure its cheaper to just update a couple of banners instead of hanging 30-40, but it looks so much better with more. And they players earned those things. They should be celebrated.

And I hope VCU gets the book thrown at them. By all accounts Rhodes is a good guy, but still, he chose to go to VCU, nobody forced him to. And he probably knew what Wade (and maybe others) were up to, as he was there for part of that time.

Must have been one heck of an investigation to occur overnight!
Notice that paper has UVa, VT and JMU as "local colleges", but not ODU, which is closer to Richmond.

I dare say my investigation of my freezer looking for something to make for dinner is more thorough.

Two reasons based on little more than a hefty gut instinct and whatever knowledge of state newspapers that I still possess: 1. UVa, VT and JMU have more alum in the Times-Dispatch's circulation area, and 2. They're owned by Berkshire Hathaway, which also owns newspapers in Charlottesville and Roanoke, which strengthens their UVa and VT coverage.

I have no way of knowing this, but I suspect that their coverage of ODU sports would have improved had they made the I-A football move in 1992 or 2002. But now they've probably lost half their newsroom in the past five or so years (and they had yet another round of layoffs/buyouts/position eliminations last week, so their numbers are even worse). So unless BH buys the Pilot or perhaps the DP, they probably can't spare anyone to come to Norfolk unless it's a special occasion or they have a local tie-in.

A pathetic example of our lack of exposure. And I don't even blame the Richmond Times. We need a much more aggressive SID and AD because Harry and the folks at the Pilot can't seem to get enough of Richmond, Charlottesville, Lynchburg, and Blacksburg institutions. Ridiculous.
We've discussed this before. With newspapers dying its probably a bit much to hope for. But it does make me sick that JMU and WM are considered "local" while ODU is not. FWIW, GMU isn't included either. (and they're likely closer than JMU too) I would imagine if ODU wished, it could approach the RTD about paying to be included. It would probably be worth it. The only issue then becomes who fills the link with content? Could the VP let the RTD pick up their content so they wouldn't have to pay someone to write it? I wonder how much something like that would cost? Even if its tens of thousands to be included, its probably worth it for exposure and perception enhancement to all the parents of kids in the RTD readership area. We need to be listed among those other schools.
Maybe its b/c we have a pretty big newspaper that already covers ODU sports? GMU gets covered in the WaP and us in the Pilot. If Richmond didn't cover JMU who would? I went to HS in Richmond and there were like 8-15 students per year that would go on to attend JMU. Only 2 or 3 to ODU. That was just my HS, but I would imagine that most Richmond schools are like that. A lot of those same people probably come back to Richmond to work/live after graduation. Probably not the same amount for ODU. So there are a ton more alumni living there too.

Just my two cents.
Yeah NYG, it's always been this way with the Times Disp, nothing new. And it's that way with this region down here too. I've been saying for years, many, many folks in Virginia know next to nothing about Hampton Roads/Tidewater. They may know there is a Naval Base and a beach.

I've traveled all over Virginia for years for work and play. You would be hard pressed to find a score for an ODU basketball game in the listings out in Roanoke, Lynchburg, C-ville etc., much less any kind of article.

I'll never forget our nieces ex-boyfriend, " the dweeb" , when we played UVA that time a few years back at JPJ arena in whatever tournament that was. We had a good team. He claimed to follow sports and said UVA would absolutely crush us, that Radford was much better then ODU. He knew nothing at all about us. ( talk about a long ride home after that one, poor Brandon Johnson).

And remember a couple years ago when a C-vile sports writer wrote that ODU Football was D1a when we had already moved up. Guess he didn't get the memo.

The PR for ODU AND this whole region lacks IMO.

I didn't know about the Berkshire Hathaway angle. I'm honestly surprised Buffet allows a center-right paper to exist under his ownership.
