Here are a few articles on West Virginia leaving the A10. The athletic board voted 9-0 to leave the A10 for the Metro after Tulane shut down their hoops program. Apparently, fans were not happy with the A10. The university people stepped in and voted 10-0 to remain in the conference. Ultimately, the Metro stayed put and accepted Tulane back once their team was reestablished.

This 1985 article mentions an Eastern Seaboard conference that would prove too hard to get off the ground. It consisted of Rutgers, Temple, Penn State, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Florida State, and Miami. Now that would have been a great conference! Too many old fashioned people in charge at the time to make it happen, IMO.

All of these article stress the importance of an all-sports league. I can't believe the people in charge wasted a whole decade and allowed the Big Ten to dash their hopes.
