That's the problem, there was nothing there to do anything about. Bell would've faded away, at some point even the most desperate of media types wouldn't have given him the time of day. Josh could basically sit back, deny the allegations, and rightly say that the guy has mental issues and that he was taking the high road.

But by filing the lawsuit, you put it in a formal venue where the media has no choice but to cover it. In some ways, it legitimizes Bell's allegations.

You have to pick your battles, this one was a foolish one to pick because Josh had essentially already won.

Exactly
Dumb, dumb move by Josh. It's a civil action, only money involved. One guy has none, one guy has a lot. It's Josh and his rabbit ears. Just like when he was here, calling into radio shows to "correct" the hosts. And starting off post-game pressers responding to CA articles or what some radio host said 3 days prior. Thin-skinned and head coach don't usually mix well.

Cal showed how to handle a similar lawsuit, he made it go away. Pretty frivolous lawsuit by 3 Memphis attoneys, but rather than risk having to answer questions under oath, he paid the attorneys $100K to make is go away. http://www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-basketb...-disappear

"Calipari, Rose, pay up to make Memphis lawsuit disappear"

"The basis for the potential suit was the NCAA sanctions made their season tickets less valuable in subsequent years. University counsel Sheri Lipman told The Commercial Appeal that the complaint “had all sorts of holes in it” and was “baseless factually and legally.”

Still, Calipari, Rose and Johnson settled rather than take the case to court, presumably to avoid any further legal entanglement, such as having to give a deposition under oath that could’ve included wider-ranging questions about the Tigers' program at the time.

As part of the May 2010 settlement, uncovered this week by the newspaper, Calipari, Rose and Johnson agreed to pay the attorneys $100,000."

Not sure who advised Josh to file the lawsuit, but IMO, it was bad advice.

How about that he has nothing to hide? Wouldn’t that be an obvious reason?
I already told you guys why they made up the sexual assault allegations. She was cut off financially by her family and it pissed Bell off. They needed money and boom extortion scheme.

So?
Filing the lawsuit against these absolute losers, criminals actually, only pushed them to escalate things against Josh and make up even more bs. It was a really bad decision on Josh's part. Should have just let it go. Nobody was buying the garbage Bell was putting out.

Foolish. Whoever told him to file the lawsuit knew what they were talking about. A high-profile employee needs to fight back against that type of complaint. Letting it go leaves doubt in some people's minds.

No it doesn't. Not at all. It depends on the source and Bell has/had no credibility whatsoever. He's a guy with serious personal issues that Josh clearly helped at some point. When the guy wanted more and more, pastner distanced himself from the guy. He didn't like it and resorted to extortion. Filing suit against Bell ignited a crazy person to piggyback on the "me too" stuff to further his utter BS campaign.
Not a good move.

Yet he has gotten the Story into national outlets.
No one believed Bell. But the timing is unfortunate for these kinds of stories involving anyone.

And now, because of the lawsuit, it's got staying power.

Huh? Are you just trolling now? Calipari didn't make it go away? Who employed the lawyers? Calipari paid up to dismiss the suit with a confidentiality clause. Calipari also gave up his bonus of $232K "Calipari and Johnson also agreed to pay their post-tax portion of bonuses received for the Tigers reaching the '08 national title game — Calipari's post-tax bonus estimated at $232,000 and Johnson's at $71,000 . . .

So $332K in your book is not 'doing anything'. Sure thing buddy. Cal was not going to be deposed under oath under any circumstances, too much downside.

Paster, like an idiot, filed the lawsuit.

I'm not saying any of those things, I think you're grasping at straws. Never said $332K was not doing anything. What I'm saying is his lawyers made all those decisions and persuaded him the path to take. He wanted to do something else. So no, Coach Cal didn't make it go away. Shrewd legal minds did. I don't think Pastner filing a lawsuit to clear his name with himself, his wife and his school makes him an idiot either. Kinda strong there. You okay?
Fishman, you've been arguing with 450, TG, Nigel and now me that this isn't stupid by Josh. And you're wrong, it's just dumb. His control freak personality couldn't let it go. It was a 2-day story, and now it's not. Ron Bell has nothing to lose, Josh does.

And Josh is putting his contract in jeopardy. Georgia Tech is realizing what a disaster he is, and they owe him until 2023. The NCAA, not Ga. Tech, already suspended Okogie for 6 games and Jackson for 3 over Bell providing them extra benefits. Could the school find more in a Josh deposition that will let them fire Josh with cause?

More than likely this won't reach depositions or even discovery depending on Arizona law. It has summary judgement written all over it. That's why it's not a risk. Now, if he does have something to hide, then yeah he's a schmuck.
Correction, he might be a schmuck either way.

Ok, but Josh filed the civil suit originally last month. Are you saying Josh would now seek a summary judgement? Seems unlikely. Bell is broke and in all likelihood has a lawyer working on a contingency, so it doesn't cost him much to keep this thing going, either in reputation, career risk, or lawyer fees.

He can file that motion tomorrow if he wants. Just like I'm sure they've filed one to dismiss Bell's lawsuit.

Hard to win on summary judgment when there are questions of fact.

That's true. Wonder where a copy of that lawsuit is. I'd be interested to read both.
