There are at least 14 players Tubby and staff failed to sign, maybe more. A lot of these guys were high priorities that the staff swung and missed on.

How is it possible to not land a one?
They got in late on those guys--didn't do the work, didn't establish relationships, maybe even insulted some of them...It's not like Tubby has the knack for uplifting quotes.
Remember what Tubby said...Memphis can't expect good recruits.

That has actually crossed my mind. They were being criticized for not recruiting high-level players, so they go make half-ass attempts and offers then say, "see, they won't come here". Tubby's crew is unable to recruit high-level recruits to Memphis - Others would be able to.

Because the staff has no coordinated plan. Because BAM! seemingly just googles the 247 rankings and then randomly throws offers out to guys where Memphis has little or no prior relationships.
Do you know how many people Pastner offered? It’s very common to offer tons of top kids with hopes you’ll get some interest.

But Pastner literally didn't go to an aaa showcase in the summer, see some top 50 kid who had been courted by major schools for years, then just walk up to him and say hi, follow the kid on twitter, then extend an offer.
Donsumu, for example, was the biggest waste of time or Memphis. There were a couple other summer offers that were totally out of left field, too.

I do remember when the *coach formerly known as Pastner offered even one little JUCO, the forums would go up in flames.

Tubby doesn't even want high level players.
He can't coach 'em up any further.
His coach 'em up method depends on the idea that Tubby knows all and they've never been good.
He keeps driving the point home again and again that they will need to be OBEDIENT to him.
I just didn't see this next progression..I didn't think he would throw individual players under the bus.
But I should have guessed nothing was sacred in his ruse...nothing but him and his son.

I know he offered a lot of players. I’m not dissing the guy, it’s done by many teams. Throw some darts and hope you hit one or two. Pastner was a good recruiter, not a good coach. However his act grew old here. Had to hire daddy Lawson to get Dedric and also signed several Jucos/transfers. Rivers is one of his.
