Not sure how valid these are, but hey, totally invalid things are posted on these boards all the time. 05-stirthepot

Plus, it's the football off-season.

Anyway, this is what ESPN says about this ranking:

http://www.espn.com/college-football/sto...on-ranking

Well that can't be right....

There's no powerhouse "we DESERVE a seat in the playoffs" G5 (and/or) AAC schools in the top 25. How can that be?

All (Ok some....) snarkiness aside, I'm shocked eye-wuh is that high.
One way of looking at this list is to compare for different teams what would happen if each team beat every team on their 2018 schedule that is ranked below them on this list and lost to every team ranked above them.

Boise State (#37) and Memphis (#46) are the highest-ranked G5 teams on this list. Each would be 11-1 (12-1 with a CCG win) if they beat every team below them on the list, which would put one of them in line for a CFP bowl, probably the Fiesta Bowl. OTOH, even having the benefit of one of the best bowl games, with that relatively thin schedule, they're not going to have any shot at the playoff unless most P5 champs have 2 or more losses.

There are more than a dozen P5 teams that are ranked higher that would be in playoff contention if they are 11-1, but realistically are not going to beat all but one of the teams on their much more difficult schedule and are not going to be in any bowl as good as the Fiesta Bowl. LSU (#26) plays 6 teams ranked higher, and if their results hold to these rankings they'd be 6-6, and unranked, and playing in something like the Belk Bowl.
