I've been talking to some people who know and found out a few things that are obvious and a few that are not. I was asked not to put some facts in (which I will honor):

Tubby was not responsible for the university offering him a 5 year $15M contract. Would you say no?

He was not responsible that the University did not do it's due diligence and find a coach that has strengths that would serve him well as the Tiger Basketball head coach. As many say, he is not a good fit and the AD and Rudd realize that now.

With the athletic facilities being built and those completed, with basketball revenue down close to $20M a year compared to 2013 and the highest paid coach in Memphis basketball history on the payroll for 3 more years (or bought out and a new coach being paid too), the athletic dept. and the boosters are tapped out or not willing to put any more money up to buy out Tubby. They don't seem to grasp the lost opportunity costs and break even points that I and others have posted here (they don't read this BTW).

Tubby is not happy here from a job standpoint (how could he be?) and would probably resign after this season except he won't because of Saul. Tubby is an honorable man and would ordinarily do the right thing but when family gets involved, it clouds a man's judgement. So it is almost a 100% certainty (nothing is guaranteed) that Tubby will be here next season.

But don't take your frustrations out on him. What you are seeing in almost every respect is the same Tubby Smith who coached at Tulsa. This was something created by a bad hire of a coach who just isn't cut out for the Memphis job. But blame those who overlooked the obvious weaknesses that Tubby has had his entire career and gave him an even more lucrative contract that we had just escaped from by pure luck with the hire of Josh Pastner by Georgia Tech.
You sound like you might be on the cusp of psychological counseling.

That's all well and good, but after 87 years in coaching, Tubby knows what is expected of a $3,000,000 a year college basketball coach and he is the one that chose to not do his job. I believe the admin made a mistake in the hire, but the mistake is because Tubby sits on his butt and refuses to do what is expected of him. Do you really believe Tubby sat in the job interview and said he wasn't going to recruit? That he was just here to do the minimum for 5 years, take his money and go? I don't.
Tubby is being paid 3 million to do a job that he is giving $300,000 effort.....and I'd argue that another coach that is offered $300,000 can do a better job than Tubby is doing right now.

YEP
TUBBY HAS NEVER RECRUITED-NEVER; HAD ASSISTANTS WHO DID. I did not make this up. Who among us can say Tubby had the RIGHT abilities to perform well at Memphis and tell me what they were?
I’m far more pissed at out idiot administration/boosters who made the safest hire known to man and gave out yet another gold-plated contract.

Tubby is doing what Tubby has always done. It was never going to work here. Bad for from Day 1...the people in charge should’ve known that.
Hey Shooter, and anyone else who wants to answer.... Will Tubby still be the Memphis coach next season? Just a simple yes or no will do.
I am not mad or frustrated at Tubby as a person. The issue is his job underperformance.

Boiled down, he simply does not win enough games to merit a NCAA bid or even a NIT bid and does not win enough big games.
Tubby knows that he sucks. He is laughing at all of you and collecting the check.

Reading is fundamental:

"So it is almost a 100% certainty (nothing is guaranteed) that Tubby will be here next season.

If I can only say yes or no...then yes

Would require prideful people to admit they blew it and then pay $9M

Memphis was the perfect. town. for a coach who couldn't recruit.

Errbody knew dat doe.
To the OP:

Tubby saw an incredible opportunity that only a place like Memphis could offer. $3 million/year and twelve Top 100 players available in the next 4 years RIGHT IN HIS BACKYARD! He could recruit ALL OF THEM on a tank of gas.

He and his staff were so lazy they couldn't even do that.

People also say that he can coach 'em up. I believed that. I really did! Honest Injun.

But then he said the players need psychological help because he can' get it through their thick heads how to play basketball.

He may have forgotten more about X's and O's than most coaches know, but he clearly doesn't know how to teach that to young men.

Thanks for responding with the obvious and a touch of jerk. Reading is fundamental, however I just barely skimmed over his post.
That said,

There are quite a few that would say he isn’t returning. So, they would be answering “no”. And you didn’t bother answering my question.
**** Tubby

This is why I believe he will get another year. Our admin is also more concerned about a clean image than winning even though every school in America cheats to some degree. Credit where due- they’ve done a heck of a job with football but they’ve screwed the basketball program up in a big way. IMO, Tubby gets another year, interest and attendance continues to decline, he misses on all the 2018 & 2019 locals and he’ll be gone at the end of next year. Eventually the admin will stop wasting the resources they have for hoops.
