Folks,

I was just wanting to pick your collective brains regarding ECU's latest hoops pickup.

He's a 6'10" kid out of Dyer County (TN) High School. No listed offers on 247... no photo... nothing.

Based on the videos below, do y'all think we just picked up another stiff body with no real upside? Or did Lebo find a diamond in the rough on his way out the door?

Note - these are 3 consecutive games from this season. Not cherry picked. I guess we need to consider the talent level of his opponents.

Thoughts?

VIDEO LINKS BELOW

Game 1
(25 pts, 20 reb)

Game 2
(30 pts, 12 reb, 5 blk)

Game 3
(19 pts, 13 reb, 3 blk)

Bolded part is pretty important. Hard to tell how good stats stack up without knowing that.
I'd imagine the recruiting will be off until ECU lands a permanent head coach.

I know .. Doesn't really show me what level of competition it is.

There is a big difference between High end AAU and standard HS basketball.
Hard to tell from those short videos but it doesn't look like a high level of competition.

He runs well and appears to have good mobility for his size. All the shots he took in the videos were within 3 feet of the hoop so we have no idea of his offensive skillset but I suspect its probably limited.

He looks like a project but he has decent to good athleticism so there's upside.
I'm intrigued by this guy. He's got very good size and appears to move very well. I am going to assume he's very raw offensively, but I believe I also read somewhere that he recently grew 3 inches so that obviously takes adjusting to. Either way I actually love this recruiting class that signed during the early period, and am even more encouraged that they won't be coached by Lebo for a second.
He looks damn athletic. There are a lot of players the so called experts miss out on so it wouldn't surprise me to see him fly below the radar and end up starring for ECU.

Yup recruiting services miss a lot.

Examples:
Austin Reaves (Not ranked by any service)
Ron Baker(2 star or not ranked)
Look at his list of bona fide offers. That usually tells you the level of the player. If he's any good quality schools will know about him. Especially at 6'10".

The Florida Gators didn't think Blake Bortles could be a QB so they offered to let him walk on as a tight end.

Yea.

Especially if the kid is from a small town that isn't close to a good sized metro area.

Newbern, TN seems to qualify.

Not always true. As mentioned, if they are from a small town and don't play AAU ... they get looked over alot.

No they don't. He's 6'10" with no quality listed offers. So every multi million dollar coach in the nation has missed on thus guy? Anyway, he doesn't play for a small town. He plays for Dyer County in Tennessee, right?

Not always. If an ESPN 5 school were to consider him then he would shoot up in their recruiting services. They (ESPN) are very dishonest. As long as he’s an ECU only recruit, he’ll fly under the radar.

I'm not sure why that is hard to believe?

NOTE: Not saying I see anything in this guy that makes me think he's going to be a stud, or saying he wont be a stud. But just because other coaches have missed, and recruiting services haven't paid attention, doesn't guarantee that he's not a good player.

Because Dyer County is no backwoods, small town school. It has over 1200 students *and* he's 6'10". But anybody 'might' be good. So yes, he might be good. Just a well kept secret thus far.
DCHS has been one of the better programs in Tennessee, especially outside Memphis, for a pretty good while.

What are you talking about? Literally happens all the time. As a 76ers fans I can think of 2 guys we have that weren't recruited anywhere and are bigs. Literally every multi million dollar coach missed these guys yet they are good enough to play in the NBA. I'm sure their are tons of more not only in the NBA, but play at high levels in other leagues

If he didnt play aau ball he might really be coach able.

You can teach him alot of things except one. You cant teach him to be 6 10
