Sept 29 OPEN
Oct 3 @ Georgia Southern (Wed)
Oct 13 vs South Alabama
Oct 18 @ UL (Thur)
Oct 27 vs Georgia State
Nov 1 vs App State (Thur)
Nov 10 @ Coastal Carolina
Nov 17 @ Texas State
Nov 24 vs ULM
Dec 1 vs Troy (Conference Title Game)

Chiefsfan I was kinda hoping GS could skip a weeknight home game this year given our performance the past couple of seasons. Do you really think ESPN would go for stAte @ GS as a premium game?
I just realized that South is in separate divisions in football then in all the other sports. That kinda sucks.

Ark State at GS was the highest rated Sun Belt conference game this past season by a lot. I doubt they change up the formula unless they think they can get more viewers with a different match up.

Hard to say. We still had the highest rated league game by far, and that's despite competing with the baseball playoffs. It took 4 straight years of declining ratings to finally get AState/ULL out of that spot.

I could see App/Troy getting a Wednesday Night...but I think that replaces Troy/USA as the league has appeared of late to prefer limiting teams to one Wednesday game. Statistically, despite the Summers error, AState, Troy, App, and GS remain the most watched SBC teams.

FWIW - only because I have a large spreadsheet and I'm playing schedule sudoku...

Oct 3 is problematic for a Wed game because that means BOTH teams have to have a BYE the week before (Sep 29) and UL has an OOC game that week. Meaning... you would only have 7-10 active teams so you'd have one team without someone to play so unless there are THREE teams that week with BYE's a Wed game is not happening that week.

You actually run into that same problem for weeks 5, 6, and 7. The only real work around is for one team instead of having a BYE to play a Thursday night game the week before.
(01-30-2018 09:57 AM)TrueBlueDrew Wrote: [ -> ]This is my best guess for how Georgia Southern's schedule will look. This is also probably the best schedule we could have.

Sept 1: Presbyterian - opening weekend (Paint the town blue)

Sept 8: UMASS - Military appreciation day

Sept 15: @Clemson

Sept 22: bye week

Sept 27: App State - Thursday night

Oct 6: @Texas State

Oct 13: South Alabama - homecoming

Oct 20: @New Mexico State

Oct 27: @Georgia State

Oct: 31 Arkansas State - Wednesday night

Nov 10: Troy - last home game

Nov 17: @Louisiana-Lafayette

Nov 24: @Coastal Carolina

Dec 1: Conference Championship

USA has an OOC game on Oct 13. Our only options that day are (App, Ark St, @Coastal, @GaSt, @ULM, @TxSt

Also I don't think we play UL. I think the graphic on the GS website is incorrect.
My Guess on TROY:

Sep 1 ESPN U-Boise St @ TROY

Sep 8 ESPN 3-Presbyterian @ TROY

Sep 15 Big 10 Network-TROY @ Nebraska

Sep 22 ESPN 3-ULL @ TROY

Oct 2 Tuesday ESPN 2- TROY @ SOUTH

Oct 13 ESPN 3-TROY @ Liberty

Oct 20 ESPN 3-Georgia State @ TROY

Nov 3 ESPN 3-Texas State @ TROY

Nov 10 ESPN 3-TROY @ ULM

Problematic, but ESPN is going to tell the Sun Belt what Midweek days they have available to use, and the Sun Belt either has to take it, or have no games on TV.

It's not like ESPN is going to go out of its way to help us clear up a scheduling issue. They won't care at all. It becomes up to the Sun Belt to make it work.

The downside of starting a Conference Title game is that the Sun Belt loses access to the last week of the season ESPN2 games like we've gotten the last 2 years.

There's no chance ESPN is going to give up a Friday after Thanksgiving time slot to the league. It just won't happen. I expect as a result, the matchups the league intentionally held to the last week of the season last year will be moved to October or Early November for television.

Thats a good point on the tv side of things. But still would not be surprised if the App vs Troy was the last regular season game. Even if that mean playing the game on a short week. Like Nov 24 Thursday or Nov 23 Wednesday. If its a Wednesday game they could push back the Nov 17 week game to Friday Nov 16 for App and Troy. That Nov 17 weeks game needs to be a home game for Troy for sure if they travel to Boone the last week of the year.

Nov 23 is already filled up by the MAC. That's their big day.
Nov 24 is Thanksgiving. Meaning no football outside of the Egg Bowl
Nov 25 is traditionally loaded with P5 Football games and a basketball tournament or two.

I know you badly want this to be the case, but trust me. Chances are pretty strong App/Troy is played in October or Early November to accommodate television. (Likely ESPNU, unless they pull the South game off of ESPN2)

Considering ULM misses App State, it's definitely wrong. Which is sort of hilarious.
Haven't seen it anywhere else on here and really didn't want to start a new thread....announced yesterday App @ Clemson in 2024.

Crazy. There were some Sci-Fi movies from the 80s set in that time period. We are officially living in the future.
After last season GS @ App may not warrant a Thursday night game, we'll likely have Thursday games @ Ark St. and either Troy or GA St. in Boone. I doubt they give one school three Thursday night games.

As great as having our game on National TV has felt, I would be extremely excited to play App at home on a Saturday again.
