It's so annoying when something scandalous is affixed this suffix. In the original scandal, the hotel at least had those string of letters as part of its name.
No, people who jingle the house and car keys on the chain is annoying. They do it for attention.
I did back in the 80's.

However, when it comes to FisaGate and Obamagate, then we're talking about the same actual crimes that occurred in watergate. Only magnified about 2500 fold.
No, doesn't bother me in the least.

What bothers me the most is when hypocrites shout, "collusion" but then once it's obvious there never was any, they shout, "obstruction of justice", like it's what they really meant all along.

They'd just as soon try, "look, over there, shiny".
All the time.

We can blame ESPN for a lot of it in the sports world. They pretend they're real reporters and like to play things up into some big stink, and the best they can come up with is partially copying the name of Watergate for every new sports scandal under the sun.

ExaggerationGate...
It's a little annoying, yes. Not as bad as everyone saying "literally" in half their sentences.

Agree - especially when their subject matter is metaphorical. A lot of people will still use the word "like" in every other sentence. That chaps my ass too.

Butthurt and idiotic seem common. Euros like to use degenerate.
I don't unless you can call this Mikogate
What a surprise. A conservative came up with this concept.

"The adoption of -gate to suggest the existence of a scandal was promoted by William Safire, the conservative New York Times columnist and former Nixon administration speechwriter. As early as September 1974 he wrote of "Vietgate", a proposed pardon of the Watergate criminals and Vietnam War draft dodgers. Subsequently, he coined numerous -gate terms, including Billygate, Briefingate, Contragate, Deavergate, Debategate, Doublebillingsgate (of which he later said "My best [-gate coinage] was the encapsulation of a minor ... scandal as doublebillingsgate"), Frankiegate, Franklingate, Genschergate, Housegate, Iraqgate, Koreagate, Lancegate, Maggiegate, Nannygate, Raidergate, Scalpgate, Travelgate, Troopergate and Whitewatergate. The New York magazine suggested that his aim in doing so was "rehabilitating Nixon by relentlessly tarring his successors with the same rhetorical brush – diminished guilt by association". Safire himself later said to author Eric Alterman that he "may have been seeking to minimize the relative importance of the crimes committed by his former boss with this silliness".

Where have you been the last 30 years? Its way too late to be annoyed.

Being annoyed by -gate statements...
would this be, gategate?
It's just one of those cultural things that's there just cuz. Personally I'd like to see some diversity in scandal names, instead of -gate why can't we use _ Dome as tribute to the Teapot Dome incident?
