It concerns football and that's all I can give you right now.
Awesome tease...

Was it confirmed that Dawson is headed to Huntington?

wouldn't be mad at all...Dawson was/is adequate...our previous OC (Lindsay, now at Auburn) was head and shoulders (and I don't mean the shampoo!) above Dawson.
Marshall, please do us a favor.
Most USM fans will wish Dawson well, but not be upset he is leaving. Many of us are excited to see what present WR coach Scotty Walden can do as OC.
Its a split crowd. The always wanting to fire someone crowd wants him gone.
Maybe it's that you'll be mad when we don't take him. Either way a portion will be mad.

I thought he did a decent job for you guys this year, but I don't like his track record - doesn't seem to stay in one place long and it's not because he is shooting up the ladder. He had good years at WVU, but really benefitted from dynamic personnel.
I’m not in the want him gone camp. But I’m also not in the please don’t leave camp either. He’s adequate, not great. He has some games where you think he’s turned a corner and the offense will run like a well oiled machine. Then he’ll have about 4 games a year where you think he’s absolutely horrible and wonder if he’ll ever get over the hump.

He runs a spread and at heart wants to throw the ball more than run it. Usually his offenses throw the ball effociently. At times, the running game will become totally ineffective because of lack of creativity. This leaves him one dimensional and he struggles in that scenario. Also, he doesn’t really make an effort to get the ball to any 1 player. We had 2 guys that were big playmakers last year virtually disappear this year. In 2016 Staggers had over 1,000 yards receiving. This year he had like 400 and just wasn’t targeted much. Same with our TE Julian Allen. Went from being a playmaker last year to having like 5 catches this year.

Overall, he’s adequate. He understands how to attack defenses but struggles when the defense has good players because he lacks creativity. Not a trick play guy and doesn’t throw in many wrinkles. Prone to 2 or 3 clunkers a year. Overall he’s decent, but not great. I really thought we could upgrade at OC but he wasn’t nearly bad enough to fire. If he goes to Marshall that presents a good opportunity. Overall I’d grade his time at USM with a B-

I know his parents are from close to this area. But i think his much better half is from up there. I think she may be a couch burner.

This ^^^^ he's good not great. I think his and Coach Hopson
Philosophy don't mesh well. Coach Dawson would rather throw the football 40 or 50 time's the game where coach Hopson would rather balance it out
MadEagle. If his philosophy is to throw that many times I would not see that fitting Doc's style. He is conservative by nature, takes few chances etc. and Marshall actually had good balance between running and throwing this year.

With USM having Ito Smith the last 3 years while Dawson was here the final 2 it was not logical for us to throw it 40-50 times unless we got behind early. I am in the camp of it won't break my heart to see him go. Too many times it seemed like when we had a rhythm going he would completely change it and we'd go from being up 10 to down 10 in a quarter.

Not to mention Doc doesn't seem to mesh well with anyone.
Dawson had one good year (statistically speaking) as OC and that was his first year when he and Hop inherited senior Nick Mullens from Monken. Other than that, he's been no so great. Heavy on the run, not much creativity in the pass game.

I also don't understand the recruiting. We are recruiting both pro and dual-thread QBs. Seems the OC gameplan would fit 1 or the other, but our OC goes after both.
We've had better, we've had worse.
Dawson is an air raid disciple. But like most air raid guys he’s adapted to how defenses play and runs it more now. Hopson wants the QB run threat in his offense and Dawson had to mix that in some as well.

I’m so over ALWAYS having to have a WVU connection. I know Doc is connected so it’s natural but I don’t trust ANY WVU connected person wether it’s a an alum, fan, worker etc.
Adequate would describe Dawson for me. Creativity is not his calling card. When he was at WVU he was not calling the plays. Dana was still handling that. I like many USM fans would like to see Scotty Walden get his shot.
