I think more light should be shined on the stories and sacrifices of the legal immigrant. Perhaps an in-depth look at people in other countries who are doing things the right way and how their admission to the United States is being delayed or denied because of those who enter illegally.

Those people in other countries?

I wonder. Does anyone know how many people are allowed from each country and if proximity is a factor.

How much does it cost to go through the immigration process legally? I wonder if American Companies that need and rely on foreign labor could work with and through legitimate organizations in those countries to sponsor temporary workers? Kinda like temp agencies but hold those organizations (and sponsoring companies) liable for the workers returning back to their home country? Best of both worlds!
That wouldn't work.

The goal is to blur the lines between legal immigrants and illegal immigrants and just call them all immigrants.

We should have a debate on the number of legal immigrants and from where but few will argue that we shouldn't have them or get rid of them. Now, as for illegal, there is no debate to be had on criminals.
Run a help wanted for American citizens for 2 weeks. If jobs are still left unfilled, work with legal foreign temp agency. Make both pay and benefits equal though.
Short employment contracts with small, yet significant, fulfillment bonus.

It would be a terrible business policy to fill a position after only two weeks.

You are on the right track. There is a way to allow foreign labor to benefit from jobs that Americans won't do.

It's time to bring back a guest worker program.

I have no problem as long as it has a start and end date. This is contract work with employees returning to their country at predetermined time and documented. If the worker is an American citizen, the employment contract is still up.
It is similar to crop rotation.

If an employer hires a foreign worker that they are happy with, why shouldn't they be able to keep them? They should even be able to fast track them to citizenship.
I've told this story before.

If ICE put as much effort and threats into solving illegal immigration as it did triply making sure my legally employed friend from NZ left the country in the time leading up to the expiration of her visa there wouldn't be any illegal immigrants left to worry about.
