Quote:Republican Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel is dropping out of the state's U.S. Senate race because of a family health issue, leaving Republicans without a top-tier contender against Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown in a state President Donald Trump won easily in 2016.

"We recently learned that my wife has a health issue that will require my time, attention and presence. In other words, I need to be there," Mandel wrote in an e-mail to supporters. "Understanding and dealing with this health issue is more important to me than any political campaign."

"I’m writing today to let you know that I am ending my campaign for U.S. Senate in order to be there for my wife and our three children," he continued. "This was a difficult decision for us, but it’s the right one."

The Hill

Hopefully his wife makes a full recovery.
Is it a November election? Should be enough time for an organized party to get someone in place...

Oh, never mind, it's the republicans
Ohio's filing deadline is February 7th.
So who is likely to be the Republican nominee now? Sorry to hear about his wife's health.

Just like I was sorry to hear about one of Roy Moore's accusers having her house burn down in Alabama in what could be arson.

Politics should never be more important than basic life needs.
As far as declared Republican candidates

There's an investment banker named Mike Gibbons and a surveying company owner. Looks like if no one jumps in, it will be Gibbons who will be the nominee.

There are a number of potential candidates listed on the politics1 website, including the owner of the Cleveland Indians, a couple of Congressmen, the Lt Governor, the state GOP chair, and an author. I'd be surprised if any of the Congressmen risked a safe seat to run for Senate this year. My guess is it will be Gibbons or a state Senator or Rep.
Sorry to hear about his wife, but I have never liked Mandel and I say that as a registered Ohio republican. I really don't like Brown, but didn't want Mandel to be in the U.S. Senate.

Do you have anything linking the arson to the Roy Moore stuff or are you simply pulling something out your ass? I ask because as someone with extensive arson investigation training and experience cases of third party revenge arson are extremely rare. Not quite Sasquatch rare, but close.

I think of you as a genuinely good poster who only occasionally posts off the wall **** so I hope if you have something connecting the two you'll post it or either admit you made an extremely huge leap in logic. Just be forewarned I've embarrassed some of your leftist comrades in the past when they made leaps in judgement concerning arson.

Quote:One of the women who accused failed Senate candidate Roy Moore of inappropriate sexual contact said Friday that her Alabama home burned to the ground and that investigators suspect arson.

But the local sheriff said he doesn't believe the blaze that destroyed Tina Johnson's house was connected to the bitter campaign.

Quote:"The ongoing investigation does not lead us to believe that the fire is any way related to Roy Moore or allegations made against him," Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin said in a statement.

Johnson, who claimed Moore groped her in 1991 at his law offices, confirmed to NBC News that her home in Gadsden caught fire on Tuesday while she and her husband were at work.

“I am devastated, just devastated,” she told AL.com on Friday. “We have just the clothes on our backs.”

Definitely not 3rd party revenge arson. I heard she ran out of the money Gloria Allred gave her and needed the insurance payout. A lot of people are saying she'll be in jail for a very long time.

There were plenty of news stories mentioning arson.
If she had it done herself for insurance I have zero sympathy for her plight.

But lighten up Francis I wasn't making up the arson speculation.

OK then. Can't wait to skull drag you when the arsonist turns out to be her or a member of her immediate family instead of a Roy Moore supporter. When it happens remember that you asked for it *******.

Perhaps Betty Montgomery who has been the Lt. Gov. for a long while. She's in the field for the republican gov race now so the thinking is one of them will switch races.

I'll absolutely lambaste her if she did it or hired someone to do it. Not only does it put her in a terrible light but it also puts Gloria Allred in a terrible position. But it should come out pretty quick if that's the case - I'm sure there are plenty of people in Alabama who would love to quickly expose both of them.

My whole point is I didn't make up the speculation. Most of what I post is coming off a quick look at google news top stories, Facebook news posts, or silly tweets that my siblings send me. It sounds like they may have a 'suspect of interest'.
