If your team goes undefeated like UCF just did in 2018...based on your OOC schedule—what would happen?

1. Playoff spot
2. Access Bowl
3. New Orleans Bowl

I’m guessing App State w/Penn State, Charlotte, Southern Miss, and Gardner-Webb would just be on the #2 scenario.
no SBC team will get a playoff spot, so 1 is not really an option..
#2 still probably not reserved for a SBC team.
#3 however, would be a disappointment after an undefeated season
If App were to be the only undefeated G5 team, then it's likely they'd be in a NY6 bowl....mainly because G5 teams typically don't go undefeated

It would be interesting how things worked out though. Boise made it in the first one with 2 losses but there were a lot of unknowns about how that would all work since it was the first year of the CFP.

SBC will get a bit of a boost from having the championship game next year.
#2 is an option if a Belt team goes undefeated. If Troy had beat Boise st., LSU and finished undefeated they would have been ranked high enough for an access bowl. All they would need is for UCF to lose a game.
Since the Access Bowl is only reserved for conference champions, I think a SB champion can make it to the access bowl. Troy had a pretty good season. If they hadn't have been blown out by South Alabama, AND UCF didn't go undefeated, they were in the conversation for the access this year. UCF now is in the same situation Houston was in a few years ago. If they manage to go undefeated again, then they need a shot at the playoff spot.
Even if Troy didn't lose against USA, I'd still think Memphis or UCF would've gotten the call first

I think you are right.

I agree, I'm just saying that they would have been in the conversation.
I think that this year proves it's next to impossible if not, completely impossible for any G5 team to make the playoff in the current format.

For number 2, still not a guarantee for any Sun Belt team. If there are any other undefeated G5 teams, they get in over a sun belt team. Even a 1 loss team from the AAC probably gets in over an undefeated sun belt team.

So, that leaves us with the New Orleans bowl or potentially working out a deal with another bowl and conference to switch.

Is it right? No, but it's the reality. The next question needs to be, how do we change that?

all SBC teams win all OOC games including P5 games. easy lol
Considering Clemson is on our schedule I'm going to say Access Bowl.

Keep winning including doing what Troy did. Beat a name. Maybe not the same team every year but our league champ needs to do this. Plus its going to take some time. I think we have made some headway but still have a ways to go to shed our rep. Deserved BTW. So even if it makes you sick to your stomach always root for our teams in OOC and bowl games(which is really the same thing just more people paying attention).
I think App State will likely play for the national Championship even with a loss. That's because end of season #2 Penn State will lose to us by about 12 touchdowns. It's gonna be a great year...... wait a minute, this isn't a candycane! And this isn't sparkling cider!

This kind explains all of your posts.COGS
Well, we play @ Alabama next year so I say Access Bowl!
I don't think any G5 school will make the 4 team playoff. I think the Sunbelt could get a team in the access bowl, team would need to be undefeated and beat a power 5 team or two. Last year we Ole Miss and Oklahoma State on our schedule, if we had went undefeated then maybe we go access bowl.
I think Troy could possibly put themselves in a position to be in the discussion next season. We open at home against Boise in the first game with the added end zone facility. I anticipate the crowd to be large and the atmosphere to be electric and to pull off the win. Our other non-conference games are Presbyterian, Liberty, and Nebraska. Nebraska looks to be the biggest challenge, especially with the addition of Frost as their head coach. If we could go in and pull off an upset like we did against LSU as well as win out in conference (easier said than done) then I feel we have a shot at an Access bowl.

Then we lose Neal Brown.03-banghead
With Troy's OOC next season, they 100% get into the playoff conversation if there are no more than 3 conference champions with a loss of fewer.

And that's thanks to Troy's outstanding 2017 season.

The other team I would peg as in the conversation for a playoff spot would be an undefeated Arkansas State. You get to go into Alabama, a CFP finalist for 2017-2018. Huge.
If we go 12-0 with a win over Alabama...I'm moving to Vegas.

Plus...we still remain the last team to beat Central Florida.

Perhaps that will count worth like 3 penny's in the mind of someone who cares.
