In fact. Woody was his first hire.

I hope yall realize how abnormal that is, not just in the G5, but in CFB in general.

In each case he's replaced them with a better / more experienced coach.

Hope we're putting in an offer to hire Nick Saban as an assistant.

Y’all would owe us a pretty penny. That ink has dried.

But did your athletic director sign it?

Only if he does a good job lol

That's actually a good question.

Why is Elliot commenting on this before it is officially announced? I understand the writer trying to scoop the story, but this shows poor judgement on Elliot's part, or (my cynical side coming out) he is trying to impact our recruiting by talking about what a big loss it is for App. Esp with one unsigned player App has been after a long time, but GASt just recently offered.

Nothing out of the ordinary here.

Probably a question by a beat writer looking for some space to fill. I mean.. they did work together for years so its only natural that the GT beat writer ask the head coach down the street about his thoughts on the new hire. Good reporting IMO.
Good reporting, unprofessional by Elliott.
Unprofessional?

Sounds like good gamesmanship to me. Nothing dirty about commenting on it the way he did. If his comments were enough to tip a recruit in his favor then so be it.
it isn't like the recruit wouldn't have already found out about the move.
Elliott doesn't sound unprofessional at all. Timing might give that illusion, but this just comes out ... it wasn't a discussion on the eve of the first signing period. I could understand questioning his reasoning for commenting if it were 3 weeks ago.

App has a nearly full signing class already. Nothing Elliott says is going to unravel that.

If anything, his comments are effusive w/ praise. Similar to how Jeff Monken was in regards to Jay Bateman when he lost out on hiring him as our DC in 2010. Once Pete Lembo left Ball State Monken finally was able to hire Bateman. Not saying it would happen, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit down the road a few years to see Elliott and Woody working together once PJ hangs it up, somewhere.

They have never been on the same staff. Elliot was long gone when Woody came to Boone.

I only see honest answers from a no-nonsense guy. Sounds like Elliott truly admires Woody as a colleague and an opponent. What is the problem? App signed a full class already. Woody's departure would not impact your recruiting whatsoever.
He was very complementary and have no issues with his praise of Woody. And I'm a big fan of SE as a coach and a person, but shouldn't the announcement be made by GT before committing on it.

Maybe that's a small thing to some, but coaches shouldn't be commenting on moves before they are announced no matter how certain they may be.

This is one of those you are to close to be objective things..it was completley OK.
I would want my coach to say nice things about a friend, but make no comment on the hiring until it was announced. Pretty simple distinction.
I would want my coach to win while staying compliant with NCAA rules. Anything else isn't worth talking about.
Do you guys even know how the question was framed?

Maybe he was asked, "How do you think Nate Woody will do at Georgia Tech since he's taking over as DC?"
