My humble take. There are about 80 teams moving forward as the P5/6, that would be the current P5, the AAC (current total at 77) and a couple more to create the final P6. The AAC expands with the media heavyweights requiring two of the three out of Boise, BYU, and Airforce as AAC football additions. The payout at about $15M to $18M per team for AAC membersinthe new 'Par 5' media deal. The Playoffs to expand to 8 with a NY6 bowl for the highest rated G4.

I want all sport members only. CSU, BSU. BYU would be excellent. Put into the West and bring Navy to the east.
Navy loves playing in the West. Memphis to the East.

This would be good:

East:
UC
UCONN
TEMPLE
ECU
UCF
USF
TULANE
MEMPHIS

West:
SMU
UH
TULSA
CSU
BSU
BYU
AF
NAVY
Play the conference championship in THE DOME in St. Louis

Play 7 Div games and 1 or 2 opposite.

Could be good geography for all sports with WSU sliding into Navy's spot in all other sports.
The AAC doesn’t need to expand. They need to contract by booting Tulane, Tulsa, and East Carolina. Then you add one school - BYU, BSU, or CSU.
...because it's better to split our $20 million 16 ways, than 12 ways...
I always have to chuckle at these "expansion" target threads...especially on the "main" conference board. I think a lot of the ex-CUSA teams and their fans MISS playing in CUSA and so, when the topic of "expansion" comes up, they keep trying to recreate CUSA. I don't miss CUSA; it's bad enough that we're basically back in with 2/3 of the original CUSA football teams, and I certainly don't want any more teams from CUSA v.2.0.

As for the Western teams: I don't think many of you realize what adding a third or, God forbid, a fourth time zone would do to scheduling and our games. Football would be bad enough, with 9:00pm kickoff times, but it would be truly disastrous in basketball season. I see it with WVU and it really hurts when you have a 10:00pm tip for a big basketball game on a Monday or Thursday night. Not only that, but its terrible for travel for the fans. WVU happens to work for the B12 because Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas have a fair amount of alumni in and around the Ohio Valley who can travel down to Morgantown for games, but do any of the AAC really have alumni bases out near Denver or Boise or the West Coast? Not to mention that Morgantown is within a 4 hour radius of several LARGE cities in the Ohio Valley (Pittsburgh, Columbus, Cleveland, Detroit, and even Philadelphia and Baltimore (I make the trip to Baltimore in 4 hours easily) and all points in between) where various schools alumni bases can collect from.

That just won't happen with the western candidates most commonly suggested.

There are just no candidates right now that move the needle for expansion. If the MW or the B12 break apart, then maybe someone becomes available. Or, more likely, a new conference forms.
I cannot think of any compelling reason for any existing P5 conference except the P12 to have any desire for expansion. And I would see the B12 taking teams from the PAC versus the other way around.
The only expansion left for major media dollars is the best of what is left of the Group of 5. The upcoming 'Par5' Media deal is going to be the last major separation in D1 sports based on media value. Net, the existing AAC and 2 more teams at about $12M to $15M+ will complete the separation. I think that means 'last call' for BYU and Boise, both Football only. The champion of the AAC in a contract bowl or Playoff. Net, 80 or so teams in the P6.

The Champion of the AAC will NEVER NEVER get into the playoff. NEVER. UCF went 12-0, Western Michigan went 13-0 and neither were even close. NEVER will the cartel let a non-member in a 4 game playoff. NEVER!

All teams not in the cartel are playing for a league championship and the weakest of all New Years Bowls in that year (2 Peach, 1 Cotton, 1 Fiesta). Which means they will also NEVER get into the Rose Bowl. The game not the stadium. And the schools that got screwed are too chicken to take the cartel to court. Just like elections, weakness in leadership has its consequences.

Shy of the NYE bowl, a league champ has no dedicated bowl so the $$$ could force a team to play in any minor league bowl game the cartel chooses - the Monistat Bowl, the Imodium Bowl, the Rear Tractor Tire Bowl. Who cares - the BOT and their two flunkies - Ono and Williams - screwed the University and caused irreparable damage. Think I'm wrong - just hang out in Nippert after halftime for all home games this season.

But most of you would rather put on your blue and orange and boast about how its going to bring thousands of new people to campus for the first time. LOL - in two years it will be gone. Then what? 1984 - that's what. Zero long term vision- actually that's wrong with capital improvements. But UC surely didn't need the huge Golden Corral attached to Nippert. Empty seats again. There are seats in that club that have NEVER been sold in its history. But UC built it anyway. "Build it and they will come" is just a movie guys. Hope the Fifth Third rennovation is not the same - already hearing about obstructed views - lol.

"Thank you sir, may I have another" seems appropriate for the clowns in Clifton.

Jeebus. Who p!ssed in your Cheerios? No don’t answer that... I got it... Ono and Williams!COGS
Houston was ranked 6th early in the season two years ago. Had they gone undefeated they absolutely would have been in the playoff.

First of all, the huge Golden Corral is beautiful. Second, what is the irreparable damage that's been caused to the university? Third, can you please for the love god tell us what you would have done differently instead of bitching and moaning about things that were largely out of UC's control?

Didn't they just about go undefeated the previous year though? So you pretty much have to win all of you games over two seasons to have a chance to sniff the 4 team playoff.

That team was so disappointing... they controlled the Oklahoma game start to finish and blasted Louisville when they were ranked #5. With two top 5 wins, they would have definitely been in the playoff. What a waste of potential.
Blaming Williams and Ono is foolish. If you want to blame anyone, blame ESPN for blowing the old Big East apart when they were about to get paid, and ESPN/FOX giving the Big 12 members more money to NOT expand.
I think the general consensus is that realignment is not over. Once these GOR's start expiring, there's going to be a lot of knives inserted into backs and such. Probably the conventional wisdom is to have your ducks in a row for when it happens.

I don't think you drop $160m+ on stadium/arena renovations without knowing that SOMETHING was going on. Why would we go to the trouble if we knew we were going to be stuck in the AAC forever?

LMAO. Rag with his monthly piss and moan fest. If anything the upgraded press box and luxury seating was 20 years overdue. "Build it and they will come" is no where near what happened. Business community had been asking for premium seating for years. The Shoemaker renovations are going extremely well and seats are selling. The Cincinnati market is simple - if you win and/or "considered an event" fans come out. Just look at the Reds games, empty seats galore.

No, you just need to beat a strong p5 program. Houston beat Oklahoma. ucf beating 4-8 Maryland wasn't enough to convince the committee. Had they beat auburn earlier in the year they would have been in. regardless my post was responding to the guy saying it was completely impossible, when clearly its not.

right. the renovations were badly needed even if the AAC is the future.

not me. i want the best fits for the sport. since we aren't moving up just from the two major revenue sources one league is cobbled together from the carcass of division one collegiate athletics.

basketball only
gonzaga
new mexico
unlv
wichita
uconn

football only
usf
navy
colorado st
boise
ucf

both
uc
memphis
houston
smu
temple
san diego st
byu

that's twelve schools per sport and gonzaga is the only outlier, obviously. byu's probably there closest travel
If you want a best of the rest within the current framework then it’s Boise, SDSU, Colorado State, UNLV, BYU ( olympics), Gonzaga (olympics). 16/18. BYU plays partial schedule. Most important would if the playoff expanded to 8 with an auto g5 bid to create a real best of the rest.
